Hi there,

I need to register a few domain names for a client doing business in India. Their domain names are available with the .in extension. I also see there is a .co.in extention. Which is the best option? I would initially think .in b/c it is more simplified, but I'm not familiar with international registrations and just want some input as to whether the .co.in has any advantage?

Thanks!
Nicole

I would say that the co.in is more popular at present, however the .in may catch up in the end, i believe most indian residents and companies use .co.in.

a prime example is www.hsbc.co.in A major bank using the .co.in extension.

Most people have different views but mine is co.in is more popular and sounds more professional a bit like .co.uk.

Just my opinion and i am sure others will beg to differ.

Thanks

IMO you should register under both .in and .co.in if available. Think of it as a defensive registration.

For a total price close to $20, regsiter both. I recommend using TK (www.Whiz.in) here. The vast marjority of my India domains are registered with him.

Eventually, I think the .in will be more profitable than the .co.in.
