Anyone else having issues with Registerfly?

I have made duplicate payments for domains in good time (i.e not expired) but they have failed repeatedly to renew them. They have not refunded any monies paid and now as a result I have domain that has expired (still in redemption period) but they will not renew!

Clearly this could be viewed as theft and given that they have not bothered to respond with a satisfactory answer, I am referring it to my lawyers. To make matters worse I have an interested buyer for one of the domains.

I'd be greatful for any feedback on your experience as I compile evidence against this outfit.

Suffice to say I will be removing all my remaining names from Registerfly and never using them again.

That's what they want you to believe...

you know what really gets me with all this ?

As much as I detest registerfly for their criminal incompetence and their plain criminality, Icann (who must have known for years what this disreputable company was upto) have turned a blind eye - its such bad press for them being happy to let rfly pay them loads of money for rflys accreditation and thus allowing rfly to rip off customers en masse all the while having Icanns stamp on their site - such bad press that Icann is still even at this stage paying lip service only in reply to multitudes of disgruntled customers

A worrying fact indeed

ICANN aren't above the law either though and I'm sure some concerted effort from domainers would expose the failings of both Registrars and ICANN themselves. Perhaps it's time to exert more pressure via those methods which will hurt them financially. If we aren't sure about the credibility/integrity of those who should be policing the industry, then perhaps its time pressure was exerted to oust them too.

I think its time for some serious petitioning as JRBHosting is planning and perhaps some well written articles to key forums/mediums like DNJournal and government/state authorities.

I had a chat with a live support person yesterday... three of my domains have now expired and I cannot renew them. They've happily taken full payment for each but no renewal.

2 of the 3 domains were not expired at the time I attempted to make the renewal - however they all are now.

I was told by the support person (Jim Jones) that now that its expired they cannot renew them and I'd have to contact enom. He took no responsibilty on regflys behalf - saying I shouldn't have left it so late to renew it.

Why are we surprised at this though... regfly are well known for this kind of crap. I have 45 domains there- whatta waste.

Yup, same as my situation.

Surely they are in breach of their own stated regulations and ICANNS. I am sure it states that you have 30 days after expiry in which to renew on their very own site

They quite happily repeatedly took my money too before expiry, repeatedly didn't renew and now I am dealing with unrecoverable names and a what is tantamount to theft.

One thing is for sure, they are not going to get away with it!

If you read every registrar's legal fine print, you're going to find a term which
goes like "we can't guarantee we can give you any grace period or be able to
successfully renew an expired domain name. But we'll do what we can under
the circumstances." Neither their fine print nor those with ICANN require any
registrar to give any grace period at all.

That's why it's important to renew before expiration, preferably a month so all
parties involved can possibly anticipate and resolve any potential problems. I
sympathize with those who still encounter headaches despite the "leeway".

You miss the point Dave Zan (are you representing the registrars here? Are you anything to do with RF?)

We're talking here about renewals paid for multiple times (in good time before expiry) RF have received funds for nenewals, failed to renew them and now members are finding themselves in a position where they have not not had money refunded/credited and are consequently losing their domains due to the time lapse.

In my book, this is criminal behaviour!

I guess I have.

I used to work for a registrar for more than 4 years, though not Registerfly. My
working there helped me see things in a..."new" perspective.

Go ahead and read your registrar's legal agreement. Ask a lawyer if need be.

If you're still having issues with Registerfly, why not contact Mark Klein as I've
posted? I know one shouldn't have to reach that point, but isn't solving your
domain name problems the more urgent thing to do?

If/when you get those problems fixed, then it's up to you to decide whether to
pursue the matter with Registerfly or not. I'm only interested in helping out as
much as I possibly can, yet try to set realistic expectations.

I never get tired of reading threads where people threaten legal action against RF... It's just entertaining, because NOTHING ever comes of it. I understand the aggrivation, but it just seems silly to come on a forum and threaten legal action when you have no intention of actually doing it. It's tantamount to a child screaming, "I'm going to tell my mommy!" Theres also alot of people who are "starting petitions", yet I've never seen a single link to one... Also, recent decisions by ICANN regarding the .org .info .biz (i think i got that right), varying registration price policy proves that ICANN just doesn't care about public outcries.

The Internet started out as a sort of free-for-all in the public eye. Many thought law didn't exist online. It seems to have slowly changed, but now we're all realizing that not only is it not lawless, but we're all being ruled by a corrupt organization where we have no input or recourse against the actions they take... Anarchy turns to Totalitarianism... Welcome to the machine, quite literally...

Now I know why RegisterFly can offer very cheap promos.
Because they are all criminals.

Furthermore, what is becoming of the expired domains that are being lost to members by RF? Is this RF's way of deliberately acquiring key domains for itself or some other third party, so that both may benefit from its apparently illegal activities?

I really wouldn't be surprised... I've renewed 2-3 crappy names (only means something to me) a week or so prior to trying to renew 3 names which I know are worth something...

Guess what... the crappy ones renewed perfectly without any trouble.. the good ones expired (despite being repeatedly charged for autorenewals that didnt even go through).

Teefs!

I'm sure many have already done so, but I've written to Enom to try to rescue the names that hadn't yet officially transferred to RF from Enom and also spelt out the situation to them.

Lets face it Enom (very reputable in my opinion) would I'm sure like not to be associated in any way with RF. RF was only a reseller for Enom, but it can't be welcome news to Enom to hear of the practices of RF.

I've also reminded them that ICANN have apparently been aware of the shortcomngs of RF but it seems have failed to act. (pretty toothless, except when it suits them it seems)

I'll be pursuing all stakeholders in this matter, including ICANN. If anyone has instigated any proceedings themselves, it would be useful to hear how you well you have got on thus far (assuming you can air details of course)

Regards

I've posted this in a thread of its own, but no one seems to be responding - so apologies for the cross post here - but I would really really appreciate it if someone could tell me how I can rescue a few domains from regfly...

I have 2 in particular which expire in the next 3 days : can i transfer them out? Or whats the best option?

I have 3 others which expired about a week ago and regfly won't renew them? What can I do?

Have you nothing better to do than find amusement in the losses suffered by other members? What a sad, miserable life you must lead. Don't bother posting unless you've got something constructive to say.

For your information or should I say delectation, I have already started the ball rolling against Registerfly. What is your motive? Are you hoping that by questioning/slating other members integrity/intentions you'll see action eventually taken against Registerfly, because you have a grievance against them yourself perhaps - but you just haven't got the courage of your convictions to see it through?

I think that's far more likely
