I get those phone calls every now and then. Pretty annoying phone spam.

I used to get them from verio a lot.

Hah, I never knew that such companies call about things like that. The reason that doesn't happen is because I protect my Whois information. But anyways, thanks for sharing your story!

Yep, I've gotten 'em as well ... recall Verio once specifically! :D
How they find folk's so fast is beyond me ... but they're hot to get you up and hosted / web design for sure.
Be cool.โ„ข

If they could easily do that through phone. That means they also SPAM mail like hell. If so, any of you received one?

I received an email from a verio sales rep after registering a domain about 6 months back. Was a little unexpected.

I've gotten a number of them from a-plus as well. Some sound like they are being initiated from a telemarketing site in india from the accents. Usually it's a message on the answering machine I Ignore.

I got emails like this, mostly from indian hosting companies.

It's standard practice for firms with large lists of names / information.

Check the small print in the Terms and Conditions of Enom and see what they say about your information.

Stricktly speaking there is the issue of "Data Protection Act" however, if your info IS listed on the whois, i think it's public domain, so......welp, there ya go...lol

Most are likely to be indian atm. It's alot cheaper to look after 2000 people in a call center in India, than any where else across Europe. Prob. the states aswell....*shrugs*.

My 2 cents anyhows..lol

I can't recall the name, but some outfit from SanDiego has bugged me from time to time, usually a day or so after a fresh registration. I syphon all calls associated w/ my whois phone # to a cell/vm and if I don't know the number and no message has been left, I delete it. I am also learning how to be more cryptic in what info is listed w/ whois. Haven't gotten to the all name listings yet, but am leaving just enough info that allows me to be identified and contacted through means that I select.

Can't say I've ever had a phone call before.

I keep my mobile contact on my Whois, 'just in case'.

...Oh, and did I mension I have shortcut links to a few celebrity soundsboards, 'just in case'!?

Nice idea Darren, that way you can turn off the mobile not having to worry about someone calling you late at night.

ive never personally received those types of phone calls but saying that I dont accept calls from anonymous numbers (ie where they hide their number) this is ussually done by call centres etc.

i have received many letters tho and of course emails, I've started to get alot of emails recently asking if I want my websites designed by them but not sure if thats coming from when I submit to search engines or from the whois.

Very annoying. Any way to block this kind of SPAM intrusion?

Actually....there is in the UK.

You can call OfCom the phone / teleco regulator and get your mobile on a sales list. This means that no company, after a 12 week period, is legally entitled to pitch you on your mobile, UNLESS you have authorised them.

Thats why i mention the T&C's.

Rgds
