Many times someone will say "OH cool I just saw xyz.tv on TV" A person negative on .tv will then post "It redirects that's all just a redirect."

I say, SO WHAT. I think a redirect is fine, it is what puts the .tv extension into the psyche of the web surfer and TV audience. One has to understand most of these major channels and networks had their .com in 96 there was no .tv for them to register at the time anyway. What matters is the public hearing Jetix.tv as Dottie mentioned, most do not know or care what a redirect is. If you want .tv to resonate with the public, then a redirect is totally fine.

We want media companies to USE .tv, if it redirects to an extension and site built years before .tv is 100 % fine and acceptable. To think they would abandon .com and totally rebrand is not prudent. The pure .tv no redirect growth is in new media and online tv. IMO

What is your opinion

I totally agree! Whatever get's you to the website you are looking for is what matters. If someone types in the .tv and it goes to a .com then I think as long as it is the site they actually wanted then most average PC users won't even realize that it has been redirected and will type in the .tv to get there again in the future.

This is an excellent topic, i was actually thinking about this after reading the adobe.tv thread.

I agree Ray, redirects can only be a good thing for the reasons you set out above, i think what we are seeing now is major companies using .TV for their TV Advertising campaign, whether it redirects or not , i think they understand the power of the extension in terms of branding and how easy it is to remember, here in the UK i think companies have started to realise this , many times i couldn't remember if i site i saw advertised was .com or .co.uk, but it is far more difficult to forget a .tv address that you have just seen on TV. If i owned the .co.uk and thought i was losing traffic to the .com, then advertising the .tv and redirecting to my .co.uk would be great way to ensure i got all the traffic i wanted without people confusing my .co.uk with the .com version.( or vice versa)

Along with what you said Ray this is imo another reason why we are starting to see .tv more and more

I wouldn't care if it redirected to co.org.timbuktoo.net.biz.

As long as people type in .tv then that gets the message out. Eventually, all these companies tend to watch referring links. If they see that their .tv is getting more hits then what it redirects to, then they will start working on .tv being the main.

using a .tv, even if it redirects shows a concious decision to use .tv- it is not an accident, it is not a last minute effort due to the fact thast was all they could get. like i said, disney owns the .net, but that nor the .com that it redirects to is what they are pushing on a television screen.

ANY redirect could have just as easily used the .com it points to- instead they chose to pay the really really steep-gonna-kill-.tv 30.00 reg fee, and promote the .tv. (sarcasm)

take pinks.tv- that is the url it shows ON tv- yet it doesnt even go to a pinks.com- it goes to speedtv.com- an easy enough name to remember, a brand already solid- yet, they chose to put a .tv ON tv.
i am THRILLED when i see a company use a .tv, even with a redirect- they are embedding .TV in the brains of viewers

I would imagine alot of these redirects are entities that ware waiting to cross over when the time is right. Any use of .tv is good!

Agree totally with equity on this. This is all about "image" and ease of use. To a user coming to a website it is all about what is easy to understand that gets them there. More and more this is happening with .TV.

So true. The main thing is that people are getting used to seeing the .tv extention & are typing it in. Once they type it in & a site pops up, most likely they won't noticed that it's been a redirect.

Adobetv.com also redirects to tv.adobe.com Also good news.

I just watched two hours of Adobe.tv. No question, it's good.

If the .tv version of a site is marketed than it is a victory for .tv even if the site redirects.

A lot of companies use the .tv version of their site to "track" their tv ad campaign on the web. This is a great use of .tv names even if they only redirect to a .com site and it will certianly help spread the word.

My only suggestion to all these companies is to prefix their names with "www". Many tv viewers will not realize that companyname.tv is a web address (they may assume that .tv is some new tchnology that they are not aware of). however "www.company.tv' is unmistakably a web address.

I noticed today that 007.tv, $500 premium bond.tv $500 premium, and jamesbond.tv all redirect to the James Bond, 007.com website!

Obviously Sony isnt afriad to spend money on premiums just to redirect...
