Over the years we have seen some back and forth by Entertainment companies and broadcast networks using .tv

updated for 2012

NBC one of the big 3 does not own NBC.tv it redirects to FU-Cards.com.

CBS another one of the big three does not own CBS.tv it is for sale.

ABC the last of the big 3 owns ABC.tv The company owned by Disney redirects the domain as they do most of their domains to go.com with a sub domain.

ESPN the worldwide leader in sports also owned by Disney owns ESPN.tv and redirects to go.com

Home and Garden TV owns HG.tv and redirects to HGTV.com

WWE World Wrestling Entertainment, owns WWE.tv and forwards to WWE.com

UFC Ultimate Fighting Championships owns UFC.tv and keeps it as a separate site for video and does not redirect to UFC.com.

BSkY B a major British Network does use Sky.tv as a redirect to Sky.com

TNT cable network in the US does use TNT.tv

Major League Baseball uses MLB.tv for branding their streaming service.

National Basketball Association does use NBA.tv as a redirect to NBA.com

National Hockey League uses NHL.tv as a redirect to their video center.

National Football League dropped NFL.tv years ago, Verisign IMO should have given them the name for free with a promise they use the domain.

MTV.tv is the url for MTV Europe.

Fox owns Fox.tv but does not use.

BBC does not own BBC.tv.

Nice piece of research, cheers.
Additionally (as I understand it) Channel 4(uk) sent a C&D to a previous owner which led them to acquiring c4.tv ... nasty.
In Northern Ireland , Ulster Television uses u.tv - bizarrely these guys issued a udrp to take utv.com , and lost.
