Is it legal to redirect a domain to another site (not owned by you) and use url masking to hide the real url.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
.US domains.US domains
redirect your domain name...to another...not owned by you?

what would be the benefit? the other guy would get all the hits, all the profits, etc. what's in it for you?

i don't see anything wrong with it as long as you don't profit from it or claim that it's yours.

I do that for my affiliate link with Moniker.

Hmm, I wonder what's the OP up to...

Have you asked permission form the owner of the site to redirect your site to theirs?

Cheers

Now i got it, you want to redirect your domain to another site for affiliate/referral link purposes, as long as you own the domain and the affiliate/referral company approves of cloaking url it's ok to do so, but ask your customer support first.

Hmm.. very good idea.

Along those same ideas... since namepros does not allow affiliate links in signatures, do you think they would alow .com domain that redirects to affiliate? :o

Welcome to the legal section... always thinking :)

I know alot of people who are doing this using .htaccess files, some of them even stuff the cookie before they get to the site: ie. ThisIsMyMaskedLink.com has a .htaccess stuffing the cookie, for, say, eBay, and then the link redirects straight to eBay.com.

In the case of eBay, this is illegal as it is against the TOS you agree to upon registration.

Some of the more "shady", if you will, companies allow this, 90% don't.

Like everyone else says: Just check with the company first.

Then again, remember, it's only illegal if you get caught :hehe: .. but I didn't that!
