If the domain is less than 40 days after expiry, it may be on auction somewhere, depending where it is registered. Anything in the Registry Redemption Period, can only be renewed by the Registrant. So you would need to do a private deal with the Registrant. After that, it can only be registered after it drops. The three biggest drop-auction houses are SnapNames/NameJet/DropCatch. If one of these three don't pick it up, there are plenty of others which might. If nobody perceives this domain as having any value, then it will be available for hand-reg at your favourite registrar.
