I don't think anything is recession-proof, but intelligent buying behaviour goes along way to staying out of trouble...

Paying full market value is never advised, especially in times like now.

Are good domain names Recession proof? I think so. By good domain names, I am referring to the top of the food chain, domains which recieve type in traffic and are premium keywords. These domain names will always be in demand. As businesses begin to suffer from reseeding profit margins, they need to find alternative advertising methods. More money has been going into online marketing every year now. I expect that trend to continue as its easier to account for advertising online, then in traditional formats.

you need patience in domain business. They are never as liquid as you want them to be. So it is not recession proof if you want to sell it in a hurry.

You took the words right out of my mouth... Exactly what I was trying to say in my previous post.

I agree with Spade; in every category, there is something standing at the front of the line. It's also my opinion that different countries, look at different lines when determining value; and foreign dollars are growing stronger every day. The sun is always shining somewhere over the internet.

I agree with that too. :)

There's always a few smart people that get mega-rich during recessions by figuring that one out...

I think we might have found it with LLLL.coms. It nice, short, and sweet. They're affordable and easily brandable...

I never have seen a traffic/keyword domain (that I could believe was real) that I could afford. Maybe that colors my belief that temporarly depressed market segments will in the short/medium run outperform keyword / traffic domains. An example would be LLLL.coms, until they get into balance with the overall market. It is hard to buy keyword / traffic domains below market - they are too visible.

As for the OP --- recession-proof? I doubt much of anything is, but the internet has been growing at a rapid rate, and there is no reason for that to stall. Last Christmas was a down year for retailers, but online sales were up 20%. So I do not see us going backwards unless things get really bad in the outside world. But outside world factors will force some domainers to sell cheaper than they would want to, so there will be some aftermarket bargains.

As the recession heats up and investors pull money of out of stocks.... just how much more cash will be funneled into domains? Is domain investing on the verge of going mainstream? Will LLL.com rise to 50k min ? LLLL.com 1k min ? whoo hoooo coo coo catchu ! lol

It sounds silly, but really think about it for a sec...

How many domainers 6 months ago were hoping to flip their LLLL.coms for $15-$20 each?

How many domainers 4 years ago were hoping to one day resell their LLL.coms for $1000 (nevermind $10000!) each?

Let us save people the embarassment of digging out those posts - nobody expected LLLL.coms to move as far as they have as fast as they have. It certainly does not look like a recession around here, but spare a moment of silence for the .us crowd.
