The website for the North County Times (a regional newspaper serving the San Diego, California area), has an interesting article from writer Chris Bagley about how the domain boom has produced a severe shortage of viable .com domains in the real estate sector. Bagley does a good job of conveying the value inherent in a good domain to his paper's readers so that they can understand why prices can run into 6 figures. It is encouraging to see mainstream journalists grasp what we've known for a long time and pass that knowledge along to the general public. We'll still see occasional mainstream articles loaded with misinformation about this business, but as more and more media outlets get it right, we're confident that the man on the street will eventually understand why good domains command the prices they do today.

As the last meadows and vacant lots disappear from inland boomtowns, some of the businesses sprouting up there find themselves jostling for space even on the virtual landscape of the Internet.

Temecula's economic growth has increased the value of locally focused domain names that have long been registered and used, such as temeculavalleyhomes.com and temeculainformation.com. Development in surrounding communities has created a more recent market for Web addresses that incorporate names such as Menifee and Murrieta.

It all makes for a field of domain names that's increasingly crowded, with real estate agents, informational businesses and other companies coming up with increasingly varied spellings of local place names. While temecularealestate.com has been in use for a decade, temvlyhomes.com was first registered in 2003.

"It's very difficult to find a good dot-com name right now," said Dan Jauregui, a Ramona-based agent who sells real estate locally through lakeelsinoreland.com and menifeerealestate.com. "They're pricey."

Caroline Collins said a real estate agent once offered her $100,000 for the rights to her domain name, temecularealestate.com, which she first registered and built a site around in the mid-1990s. Collins turned down the offer; her business had come to depend on the site, she said.

Collins launched a sister Web site, murrietarealestate.com, in 2000. It gets fewer visitors than the Temecula site. A couple of years ago, another real estate agent offered to buy it. After she suggested $25,000, she didn't hear back from the other agent, she said.

Collins' experience is common, said Judy Zulfiqar, a Temecula-based consultant who advises clients on Internet strategies. Though Zulfiqar said she regularly hears of local businesses making and receiving offers of $300 to $15,000 for their domain names, they often are unable to agree on a price. The would-be buyer usually ends up registering a less desirable name, she said.

KCKS = Kansas City Kansas + NorthKC is boomtown for realestate right now.
nyry.com can be newyork realty.com
Funny these were mentioned... Picked up NYNYRE.com (ie. "New York, New York" = New York City), and the matched set - KCKSRE.com + KCMORE.com (like the "sound" of this one...), at various points in the past year.

Thank you Slugraduate. I like PropertyHunters.com because they just started a show on one of the channels (can't remember which) called HouseHunters.com and I think it brings up the value of these "Hunters" real estate domains.

You guys are right, Real Estate Domains are hot. I picked up a couple Real Estate domains myself:

A couple :hehe: you seem to like Real Estate Domains like me. I was pretty much attracted to this sector of the market because of the obvious reasons , The companies involved with Real Estate Usually deal with alot of money and rely heavily on advertising and having a market advantage. The avg. Family Home in the U.S is sold for over 200k , So when they are dealing with this kind of money it makes perfect sense they have the budgets to aquire the names they want even at a premium. Also a quick glance at sales for real estate domains impressed me to really dig into this part of the market.

VegasRealEstate.com $53,611
BoiseRealEstate.com $50,000
PasadenaRealEstate.com $44,187
CaliforniaRealEstate.net $12,056
RealEstateAgency.com $20,000
Lofts.com $100,000
HometownRealty.com $10,807
Mortage.com (typo) $242,400
Property.com $750,000
Refinance.com $706,850
ไธŠๆตทๆˆฟไบง.com ,Shanghai real estate ,$2,000
ๆพณ้—จๆˆฟไบง.com ,Macau real estate ,$2,000
ใ‚ณใƒณใƒ‰ใƒŸใƒ‹ใ‚ขใƒ .com Condiminium.com , $3,000

Here are a Couple of Mine !

Edit : PM for Premium Japanese Real Estate Domains !

Some people frown upon IDN's because they dont have the knowledge on them yet, But the Fact is there are Real Estate Companies Already using these domains and they are seing decent traffic with awesome PPC, Even names i thought to be a bit more speculative like ใƒญใ‚ตใƒณใ‚ผใƒซใ‚นไธๅ‹•็”ฃ.com LosAngelesRealEstate.com Payed for itself in 2 clicks in less than a week of first being parked.

Yeah I am a big fan of the realestate domains also as I am quite interested in the real estate market. I only have a couple of domains but am looking at registering quite a few more (mainly Australian and New Zealand ones). Following are the ones I currently own:

sacramentoboardofrealtors.com
brisbanecityrealestate.com

Both of these domains I currently own are getting around 30 visitors per month in typein traffic which I thought is ok.

Real Estate Domains Remain Hot As Realty Marketplace Becomes More Virtual Article by: Peter Lamson, Senior Vice President & General Manager, Buy Domains

"Old Rule: A picture is worth a thousand words. New Rule: A website is worth a thousand pictures," writes Dan Gooder Richards, in the online Realty Times (R) newsletter.

Surveys show that the Internet is playing an increasingly important role in property marketing, agent selection and home selection. This shift away from bricks-and-mortar to a virtual real estate market is driving strong demand for real estate-related domains.

How Is The Web Impacting The Consumer?

Data from the National Association of Realtors (NAR) shows that as a result of viewing listings online :

75% of prospective buyers previewed or drove by a home
57% walked through a home which they had viewed online
More than 3 in 4 used the Internet in their home search
Domain names are used to develop :

Personalized realtor sites offering daily property updates, broad-based listings and statistics on target neighborhoods served
Sites like zillow.com allow home buyers and sellers to conduct pricing comparisons on specific properties
Micro-sites for specific listings even gives consumers the chance to experience a virtual tour before committing to a physical showing
Traffic Patterns and Domain Name Selection

You've found your domain name and developed your site. Now what?

Web site promotion capitalizing on targeted domain names, through keyword and paid search (Google is the most popular venue for keyword purchases), incorporating direct marketing, is a cost-effective strategy to build site traffic.

Research Web traffic patterns; Yahoo! (R) offers a keyword search tool allowing you to see total searches on keywords and phrases for the prior month. Visit: http://searchmarketing.yahoo.com/srch/srch_pr.php and click on the Keyword Search Tool.

Real estate-related searches number in the millions each month--identifying a domain name that will capitalize on this traffic is the first step toward a successful real estate business.

Consider the example "CarolinasRealty.com", and let's examine May traffic to the following terms on Yahoo! (R):

50,233 searches on "Columbia, South Carolina real estate"
28,405 searches on "South Carolina real estate"
23,352 searches on "Greenville, South Carolina real estate"
The sizeable natural search base for South Carolina-related real estate searches is an attractive proposition for a business person setting up the site "CarolinasRealty.com".

Where Is the Real Estate Domain Market Heading?

A recent study pegged domain name appreciation at 94%, based on study of over 2,000 domains from 2004 through 2005. While the study did not focus on real estate terms in particular, it highlights a general marketplace trend toward higher domain name pricing.

The value and importance of virtual real estate tools continues to evolve in service to an increasingly global and more mobile population. This virtualization drive should ensure that real estate domains remain in high demand, with corresponding price appreciation.

So, I bought DakotasRealty.com

I think you should do pretty well with .US if they are good names Jaik go for it , and as long as they are US related real estate domains , if you dont mind sharing after you pick them up that would be cool.
