Question on bumping and deleted post/threads visibility

I have a question. This might have to do with my settings, but I can't figure it out. For some reason, I can see all the threads and posts that are deleted by mods. Not the actual posts, but that it was deleted. I personally don't care or want to see these "thread deleted by MOD". Can I change this somewhere in my options?

I am also able to see threads that are closed by the thread starters. It show for me in red with a line through the title. Is this something I can adjust in my options?

In the Domains for Sale section, it is particularly annoying when a member bumps their own sales thread to the top, just to let everyone know they are closing the thread (??). It seems common sense to not bump a thread you are closing, but many do it anyway.

Thanks

Just a little insight that might help clear a few things up.

Deleted threads visible:
After a Huge debate and a large % of members complaining about threads / posts being deleted and them having no clue why. It was decided that making the deleted reasons visible was a solution for the majority. We are still analyzing the data and listening to opinions on the matter, so I appreciate you providing your point of view about the negative clutter impact it has overall. This is definitely something we take into account as we brainstorm better ways to please both sides of the spectrum (Those that don't want to know & those that insist on knowing).

Maybe a solution here might be:

1.) Only send a PM to the member that started the thread and it was deleted? (Down fall = all posters in that thread will complain about there comments in that same thread disappearing to without notice)

2.) Only Show deleted posts reasons to the Thread starter so he can see why replies to his topic were removed & send a PM only to the member that had their post deleted? (Down Fall = Minimal)

3.) Have a setting option added so each member can choose to see deleted reasons. (There is no such setting yet, but this seems to be the most viable solution to please everyone).

Closed Threads:
Closed threads have always had the red line going through them and remain viewable for historical referencing. Its handy to be able to use the sites search feature to gather information about past topics for many different reasons, including future disputes that may relate to the topic. Deleted threads or threads sent to the Graveyard are no longer viewable / searchable by members in the community. So excessive deletions / Burying is a bit counter productive as a whole for the community. And that's not even taking into account how the pages drop from search engines and began to limit the amount of potential new buyers / sellers / readers that find us via various search queries.

Close Bumps:

I can see where this may seem a bit annoying in some cases. The good news is that the close bump is the final bump & the thread will slowly roll down into the depths of the abyss & archives never to be seen again until searched for. There's really not much we can do to prevent close bumps and in some cases members use the final bump / close to announce the winner of an auction or that a transaction was completed successfully. It's one of those more minor annoyances though I think.

Do you have any suggestions as to an alternate solution for that?

Hope some of my input helps,

Thanks Eric :tu:

The option to be able to see the deleted thread/post reason would be a good option to have.

I know everyone has there own opinion on to be able to see or not to see it, and it is not an easy task to make everyone happy.

I see your point on the "close bumps" in the auction section, totally makes sense. I don't see a need for it in the other sales sections as it pushes the current sales threads lower for no reason at all. The member can adjust their first post to show the sale closed and then close their thread. It is annoying and I would think other members would probably feel the same about a member ending a sale, bump closing it to the top, and pushing down current sales threads (not talking about the auction section).

You are right that it is just an annoyance, and I can live with it if nothing can be done about it.

Thanks a bunch for your reply Eric, it's is very much appreciated!

DELETED POSTS
I like the option on showing why threads were deleted; however, I think sometimes it would be nice to be able to do a "real scrub".

There's a thread of Matt's where my name is all over it and I'd rather it just have the references removed because it makes it ugly; however, in general I think this is one of the most positive changes I've seen at NP.

Option 2+:
Also add a statement at top "some posts have been deleted and OP and poster have been notified".

That would mean that the right people know and that it was done fairly.

DELETED THREADS
Just delete them and move on... imho.

Not sure it's the same thing but The High Price thread looks ridiculous with the rejected list. I don't think you want to show every users attempt to get a name there - nor would I want to see my name with a reject stamp.

CLOSED THREADS
No issue.

CLOSE BUMPS
Never noticed this :)
