Question about when to list

I am new to the game and I see a lot of people boast about how long their domains have been registered for when they try and sell. I have recently acquired some domains that I think will sell well. I was wondering if you recommend that someone holds on to a domain for awhile before they list it or whether that matters at all when it comes to the relevance of the name?

I recently sold a domain I bought a few months ago for $xx,xxxx. In that case it was all about the relevance of the domain and the demand from the buyer. Just wondering what your thoughts are?

Thank you.

list them immediately at sedo, other options include godaddy premium listings if you're willing to price them and afternic, some domains will sell in months and some take years as it depends on the quality of the domain and if you can position the right buyers in front of your domain, I have domains that have sold in months and others that are 10+ years old, the older ones are still around not because a buyer didn't make an offer but because they are either developed and worth more to me than the offer that was presented or the "right" buyer hasn't been positioned or approached yet.

Hi Blackjeeep,

Welcome to NamePros! I have to admit that when I read what you wrote about "...sold a domain I bought a few months ago for $xx,xxxx" I did not think it was true. But in looking at your other posts I think it is. I have to tell you that as far as I know, that doesn't not happen often and you are very lucky or one heck of a domainer...! Congatulations!

The age of a domain will matter to some people. The search engines will tend to "favor" an older domain over a newer one. It's a small factor that can help a site owner.

I would not hold on to a domain for the reason that the extra time will increase the value. But if you park or host the domain until a buyer comes alone you may increase the value by getting traffic and backlinks to the domain that a buyer will like having. And if the domain can earn some money from parking, then you have additional revenue.

If its really good(judge with the appraisal section here if you wish), list on Sedo. You can start receiving offers on the domain. hold on until you get the best.

IS it free to list them on SEDO?

Thanks a lot for all of your opinions. Thanks Niels, I had a hunch about a name and it really paid off. I appreciate all of your feedback. I have listed some stuff at Sedo. I get views but no offers. So Ill just hang in there. Thanks again.

Talky: Yes, you can open an account and list your domains on SEDO. You can also park them but the basic parking pays almost nothing, at least it didn't for me. I had about 100 domains listed there and just deleted them all. I was not getting any offers and have never sold anything I had listed there.

blackjeeep: Did you contact the buyer or did they contact you?

Yes, I have about 20 domains up on Sedo and only a few of them have had visits. Granted, a few of them are domains that won't be valuable for awhile but I was hoping for some more action on the others.

Niel - They contacted me anonymously.
