Question about redirects and SEO

Here is my question:

Say I have a domain name Readable.com. My site is all set up here, full of content, and has a PR5, with over 1000 visitors per day. It is about book reviews. (I choose readable because I liked the sound of it and bookreviews.com wasn't available). I purchased book-reviews.com and book-review.com through Godaddy, and redirect the url (301) to point to Readable.com.

So here's my question. Will these keyword redirects help Readable.com in SEO? Or will google consider this poor form in some way?

PS the site in question is purely a hypothetical example!

Thank you so much in advance, advice is greatly appreciated.

unless there are backlinks going to book-review(s), i don't see how there the redirect will help at all in terms of SEO. in your example of hyphenated domains, i don't think that it will help with any traffic either.

If these

book-reviews.com and book-review.com

Were established websites and have backlinks pointing to them [like shockie said], then yes it will help.

And if these are new domains, then it will have zero affect.

Existing traffic

The value with some expired names in that example would be existing traffic. Traffic not SEO benefit.
