Hey guys I was just looking at my domain stats an noticed someone came to my site from google searching for online racebooks and figured it was kind of weird seeing the site was only a bullshit site I put on my domain WagerCanada.com a couple weeks ago but I did a search for online racebooks and my site was on the 3rd page yet when I do a pagerank check it come up 0.

So I was just woundering how come my site dont have a pagerank, thats kind of what I figured pagerank was when you search for something and a site is on the first few pages its ranked is this right?

Thanks

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

Position on the search engine index depends on the page authority and its keywords along with the factors like competition.

Pagerank does effects the position but it is not a flat calculation.

in fact, pagerank is not actually one of the "major" factors in search engine optimization or positioning well on search engine results pages.

it does help with giving your page(s) authority - especially if they are new, and can help give you an idea as to how your link building efforts are doing.

PR can help, but there are many factors, like backlinks, content, h1, titles, descriptions, etc etc etc :)

i think it depends on the keyword that was being searched. if it's a popular keyword that is very competitive and you have a low pr, then your competition will get majority of the traffic searches

Effect of PR on SERP is nihil. There are many other factors that effect your SERP and on scale from 1 - 100 from all factors that effects SERP PR will be on 99 place.

I don`t agree it will be on 99th place from 100. Not first importance, but PR still matters by my personal experience. Especially in case you need to optimize for keywords with high frequency and competition. If you have low PR your page title and most frequent onsite keyword must have almost perfect match to search query, higher PR allows to rank better for a bit broader matches. Also by similar match higher PR sites will be usually preferred. But surely, nothing beats links from prominent sites that have keyword in anchor text.

PR is Google's way of deciding a page's importance. It matters cos it is one of the factors that determines a page's ranking in the search results. It isn't the only factor that Google uses to rank pages, but it is an important factor.

i would have to disagree with this statement.

my rule of thumb: if i'm getting visitors, who cares what the pr is

but the higher my pr is, the more visitors i usually get

sometimes...

PR is an indication of how important Google thinks your site is.
Search engine results are based on relevancy. So if your site is relevant for a topic, even if Google does not think your site is that important, your page will be returned.
