Ok, I just read more on Domain Tasting/Kiting and have a question.

If a domain is purchased by one of these domain tasters and is given up during the 5 day refund period, does the domain go through that long 30 day redemption cycle plus pending delete period? Or will the domain automatically become available after the domain taster's 5 days are up?

Any foolproof plans to recapture a domain in the hands of a domain taster before it jumps to another? (aside from using a backorder snapback)?

I beleive it becomes available after the domain is dropped instead of going through redemption.

The domain is dropped at once, without redemption cycle and becomes available for registration again. Redemption is to protect against the accidental loss of expired domains. Here the names are dropped wilfully.

Check often ;)
From my experience most names will be tasted once or twice then released. The drop registrars are hunting for traffic names and do not seem to pay too much attention to the potential of the name.

Thanks for the info guys!

Any idea how it's possible for a second taster to get a domain so quickly after it's dropped? I'm pretty sure they wouldn't use a backorder service since that would cost them more money. Do they just keep checking like I do for availability, or do they have some automatic software/service that does it for them or in cahoots with the previous taster/registrar?

I did something pretty stupid and I visited the .com domain I was planning on getting several times (which took me to a search page) - I'm afraid this might have gotten the taster some hits - will they be keeping the domain even if there's a few clicks from the same ip?

Bulk track, most "backorder" services wouldn't put the "tasted" domains on their radars as a priority due to the "unknown" factor wastes their connections.
Instead, get a list of domains you might want, use DNA or other tool to check repeatedly. Set up a macro to auto-register when available, be happy.

The simplest solution is to not give them any hints you're interested in it. ;)

While at it, one site that's verified "clean" by a registrar's CEO is iwhois.com.

This is a useful thread, thanks!

I've been watching a couple that dropped on the 25th and were grabbed straight up by findyouadomain . Both were dropped again today and were immediately picked up by domaindoorman. Grrrrrr!

Anyway I hope it'll be third time lucky for me in 5 days time. :)
