Domain Tasting/Kiting? What does it mean?

I've seen many members use the terms "Tasting" and "Kiting" but i don't know what that means in domain jargon.

Can someone post what it means?

I can only guess it means registering a name, seeing if it has traffic and if it dosent---cancel during the grace period.

In regards to domains, tasting and kiting are referring to the same practice. sirengirl was exactly right. Registering domains, seeing if they have traffic, then deleting them within 5 days for a refund.

Sadly.........Ethical or right does not always mean legal; and, legal does not always mean ethical or right, either.

Use the term Domain Tasting since that's exactly what it is.

I am by no means a fan of Mr. Parsons, myself. And, he is far from a god; some would even argue he might be just the opposite :notme: But, you have to give credit where credit is due. He may have coined the term, but give him credit for that. Look at all the mentions of Godaddy around this world-wide base of domainers in NamePros - not to discount Godaddy's mear size, either - and the man deserves credit for good business sense. Albeit, good business for the business does not always equate to fair or good business for clients or customers :imho: Don't hate the man because he spread a term around that he created the definition for...Heck, while Godaddy (and Parsons, himself, in particular) claims to have no part in Kiting or Domain Tasting (whatever you want to call it ), they couldn't tell me they don't support it or do it behind the sceens (I am involved in legal action against them for this very thing). I don't like the man one little bit, personally. But, I can not say I don't respect his business and financial mind - Not saying, I agree either is ethical...there is a diffrence. Let Bob call it whatever he may. Being the largest registrar, he has that right to make it a household term, and to even take credit for it. Just wish folks would see behind the lines that he plays the game himself, and then maybe that would bring him back down to size

From a registrar point of view i guess it's ok, he deals with the registry owner in wholesale numbers and has another business relation
The registrar doesn't pay right away the registration fee

Is this so easy for the customer of the registrar too ?
I mean registrar allow you to do this register and delete thing without any limit ?
I know it's legal but isn't there any overuse rule ?

Also i don't see all the registrars to include this term of deletion in their rules
