This domain name is currently at auction on GoDaddy.

[thenamehere].net

Sale Type:
Expiring Auction
Category(s):
Expired - Expired

There is someone on another forum selling software that locates expired domains with Alexa score and/or Page Rank so you can register them and resell for profit. This person claims that another user of the software picked this domain up when it was expired and is the one selling it on GoDaddy auctions.

Would it still show as this sale type and category if someone owned it and was selling???

You don't need a software. There are sites like DropDay.com and ZFBot.com (free) that lets you find expired domains. Dropday gives you PR, Alexa, Backlinks, & Compete and more metrics. Only thing is you got to subscribe for monthly membership ($19).

Edit: You can check the whois to see if the domain had expired. It'll also show as an expired auction on domain auction page.

The reason I was contemplating the software is because then there isn't a monthly fee. It's only $38, which is only two months of a membership like you mentioned. It would be much cheaper in the long run.

So, if it shows as:

Sale Type:
Expiring Auction
Category(s):
Expired - Expired

That means there's no way someone registered it after it expired and is now trying to resell? Sorry, I have no experience with picking up expiring/expired domains or with GoDaddy auctions. Just want to make sure I don't get scammed if I do invest in this software.

If it's showing as expired then the previous owner forgot to pay or renew the domain.
