Is the domain world going mad or what?

What on earth is QIKU? It's unpronouncable, only 10 Google search results for that name, no CPC. When you search google for that name you only get 95K results with 2 chinese sites in 1st and 2nd place rank. No adwords. I really can't understand it.

Perhaps someone here on this forum can tell me why they think this 4 llll name has sold for this amount of money?

I must be missing something here. Also having a Q in a 4 letter name is a No No! I have a few 4 letter domain names better than that piece of rubbish.

Anyway, I am throwing this thread into the pot for your comments.

Ta v much

I love "Q" names, and I don't think I'm alone. Two years ago, I picked up Qeah.com for BIN -- there was a small pocket of time when someone was dumping his massive collection of LLLL, which showed up on GoDaddy auctions, and there were pages of BIN LLLL .coms, some of them very sweet; I'm not looking to sell Qeah (it's a character's name in a book that I'm trying to write), but if the right offer came along...

$80,000 seems a bit steep for such a name, but, as they say, one person's junk is another's gold.

If that sale is real, then someone has a definite plan in mind for Qiku.

Of course, there is no Chinese alphabet, they use characters.

For most people that don't have a phd in linguistics, the word "alphabet" can be and is defined in many dictionaries as:
A system of characters or symbols representing sounds or things.

Thanks for the links.

Like somone else probably said; you can't put a value on need.

In my opinion the point here is that a lot of domainers are only " English language/thinking " oriented which is VERY VERY limited. Buyers are from all over the world and speak different languages. English market is a fraction of what it is out there.
Maybe some of you guys remember DUDU.com being sold for 1 Million...as far as I know dudu is not one of the most desirable words in the English dictionary...

:talk:

the owners of such domains, have more to do with the high selling price...than the name itself.

in other words, even if every domain had the potential to be sold for 5 figures, it takes someone with the knowledge, leverage and the "balls", to ask that much for it.

and we know, that all domainers don't have those qualities.

imo....
I totally agree with the "balls"

You'll never know what's in the mind of a person. Strange as it may seem but then, sometimes, only that buyer alone could grasp the preciousness of a domain. So what's $80K for him if he foresees the likelihood of a myriad of benefits he will get out of claiming QIKU.

the thing is if you start buying domains of languages you don't know, you are going to make mistakes.

I am just saying that some of the well known old school " rules " must be updated.
Q is a very common letter in some non-english languages. Maybe we just need to do some homework, research online and follow our gut feelings...:bingo:

BTW the letter "B" is a crappy letter in China!

All 4 letters .com worth keeping. Adam Dicker.

I liked reading peoples posts here. I just recently bought a LNL.com and upon doing some more extensive research, I've found that an extremely promising company had a product with my LNL as its products name. If the product I've seen and researched is as revolutionary as it seems, I'll be very happy with my investment. =)

You never know what can happen guys!

English isn't the only language in the world.

This name wont sell more than xx here or at Godaddy , anyway if a buyer really wants a name and is willing to pay big money for it then the name has value whether it is LLL or LLLLLLLLLL random letters it doesn't matter , there's a buyer , but don't be fooled by randomness there is maybe hundreds of thousands of LLLL domains out there with no buyers , i'm sure the sellers will use the 80K for portfolio renewals !

No need to talk about dudu when you got qiku. lol

Well, this news makes my "qofu.com" more valuable B-)

Of course, there is no Chinese alphabet, they use characters. But to type them they use Pinyin which is the letters we use in English. Many words start with Q in Chinese with the Pinyin transliteration.

There is a lesson here. If you have a short domain name, maybe even a long one, be sure to find out if it has meanings in other languages.

Forgive me for not saying hello first. I'll do that shortly. I was just doing a little digging on QIKU.com and ... unsurprisingly, it's for sale again, only months later. Seller is asking $130K or at least that is where it stands at present ... just thought y'all might be interested in this tidbit.

There's a little confusion here. The one mentioned here is QIKU.com and you are referring to QIKO.com. Which is which?

BTW DUDU.com is a big social media office in UAE, there is office is right next to mine in Dubai.
