Is the domain world going mad or what?

What on earth is QIKU? It's unpronouncable, only 10 Google search results for that name, no CPC. When you search google for that name you only get 95K results with 2 chinese sites in 1st and 2nd place rank. No adwords. I really can't understand it.

Perhaps someone here on this forum can tell me why they think this 4 llll name has sold for this amount of money?

I must be missing something here. Also having a Q in a 4 letter name is a No No! I have a few 4 letter domain names better than that piece of rubbish.

Anyway, I am throwing this thread into the pot for your comments.

Ta v much

If they can put 80k on that domain name, they'll probably use it as an acronym and have more than 1,000,000$ in yearly revenue.

Chinese buyer, Qiku.tv is a developed site. Its a big world just because it does not make sense to domainers does not mean someone else does not value the name.

...Also having a Q in a 4 letter name is a No No!...
If your company or one of it's brands has a Q and/or they do not wish to have a competitor acquire it, then it makes sense. Your statement and those such as "Wow, a two word .TV sold for that!", three word .whatever, a hyphenate name or something along those lines is where domainers fail imo.

That said it does seem like a lot of money, but I don't know anything behind the scenes. It also looks pronounceable to me (quickoo or queekoo).

It was shown in DNJournal.com sold by DomainNameSales.

Might be a fake sale, who knows...only time will tell...if this was a genuine sale I expect to see a strong development of the name...don't think someone paid 80k to park the name or to throw a $1k template on it.

On the other hand DomainNameSales are pretty aggressive in promoting themselves and the best way they can attract more quality sellers and potential buyers is to squeeze between sedo and afternic and try to establish themselves as one of the top domain trading platform.

Now whats the easiest way to do it? Try to be listed in DNJournal with lots of weekly sales, people see your name, your brand grows up and boom, you rub your shoulders with sedo.

I'm not saying they fake sales cause I obviously don't know but if you have a look over DNJournal's list you'll see funny sale figures ...DomainNameSales is everywhere on that list and IMO most of their sales are overpriced... I mean QIKU.com for 80k , Ziyi.com for 35k , SGCP.com for 20K ... thats not going to happend in the real world imo.

Frank Schilling operates in the real world he was owner of these names. Frank Schilling, Mike Berkens, Mike Mann, Rick Schilling, Scott Day etc... Those guys don't sell domains for small amounts, they get top dollar because they ask for big dollars. Smaller domainers cannot turn down a $20,000 offer and hold out for $80,000 in most cases. These guys can and do that.

Having a Q is not a no no for a Chinese buyer, Same as a hyphen is seen as absolutely no problem for a German buyer, again its a big world.

:talk:

having a Q is ONLY a NO-NO for folks who subscribe to "premium letter" guides.

those who don't read and believe that bs, can price such names as they see fit.

your mind has been washed and you didn't even know it happened.

which is why sales like these seem so astonishing.

get your mind out the boxes, that have been created for you to dwell in

imo.....

It's also qualifying the buyer. The big boys can say "tell me who you are or hit the road"

The lil boys and girls cant be so discerning, They cant poo poo a unknown party's 3k offer for a Q***.com

Many of the last 4 letter dot coms registered had the dreaded Q.
Having it at the front is probably best.
There are very few common english words with q in it. but everyone knows that, right?

Weber I don't think English words matter here, the buyer is from China.

www.qiku.tv is developed.

www.qikusports.com could be the buyer.

there is no point even thinking about it. pointless domains will on occasion sell for insane amounts simply due to the seller asking for it and the buyer being able to provide it. there is no way to repeat this kind of success unless you are able, like someone else said to hold out for as much as possible and not care if you blow it.

Yea Equity, I got that. Perhaps someone can enlighten us on how Q makes a name desirable in Asia or other countries.

Is there really a Q in the chinese alphabet? :)

I got a Q-Tip for you

dang...a Q and a hyphen

Q was a character on Star Trek, as well as one in James Bond series.

Q has personality, while A, B and C are just plain letters

:)

watch out for Z next

imo....

Qi Ku means "arrowroot" in Cantonese. I'm sure there are other meanings.

Get your heads out of the sand, folks. There's a big world out there.

using that logic every domain in existance (and even ones that don't exist) will sell for some huge amount eventually, which is very far from true.

Of course, there is no Chinese alphabet, they use characters. But to type them they use Pinyin which is the letters we use in English. Many words start with Q in Chinese with the Pinyin transliteration.

There is a lesson here. If you have a short domain name, maybe even a long one, be sure to find out if it has meanings in other languages.

the owners of such domains, have more to do with the high selling price...than the name itself.

in other words, even if every domain had the potential to be sold for 5 figures, it takes someone with the knowledge, leverage and the "balls", to ask that much for it.

and we know, that all domainers don't have those qualities.

imo....
