.info Problem with .info registry

I tried to register 6 .info domains thru Godaddy.

I was successfully able to make the payment. After few minutes I receive an error message stating that out of 6 domains, only 4 were successfully registered and 2 other domains failed as they already exist.

Prior to the registration process, I had checked the availability in Yahoo and namecheap. It did show up as available domains. This is not the problem with the registrars but I guess from the registry itself.

However I am getting a refund from godaddy. This has happen to me for the second time with .info domains. What do you guys think about this?

Hi,

Check the Who Is and see when the domains were registered.

If it was the same day. you can go to Afilais.info and check the domain in their Who Is.

It will show the time the domain was registered.

It will look like this:
Domain Name: (domain).INFO
Created On:18-Jan-2008 06:24:09 UTC

You'll have to change the UTC to your time zone.

Then you'll see if the domain was regged before your attempt.

This is not uncommon. Im a former Godaddy rep, and it happened with the .info registry regularly. The problem was basically when connecting with the registry, if we godaddy cant establish a connection to determine if the domain is avail, they sell it to you anyway. Then, once they find out its taken (when the registry connection is backup) they refund it. Its unfortunate, but its part of life.

Dotster is selling infos for 99 cents (coupon on front page) so there is a run on infos at the moment.

I suspect that you are trying to register a 2 letter .INFO

No its a two words - brandable domain for developing a proxy site. However I saw after registering that the domain was regged months ago.

Ahh I see. Probably best of checking a reliable WHOIS website before attempting to register something because it only takes time to get your money back again.
