According to a Press release just out “”Nations Luxury Transportation, LLC (Nations) today announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement under which Nations has acquired the domain name http://www.PrivateJet.com, from privately held Don’t Look Media.com, a leading intellectual property holding company, for $30.18 million in cash and stock.”" Read more...
If that's all true, it might be an important milestone for the entire industry.

The key point here is how much cash was paid upfront. Maybe it's almost all stock which isn't money in the bank.

I agree. This could mostly be an equity deal which is all to be determined. Still it is very impressive. It should hit the front page of news pages like Yahoo and be a great asset to the industry.

PrivateJet.com sold for $30 million dollars?

http://www.thedomains.com/2012/02/2...ybe-the-highest-priced-pure-domain-sale-ever/

This sale smells fishy from miles away:
1. whois is protected.
2. current website runs on wordpress. They got $30 million to spend on a domain and don't have money to create your own platform like Condos.com
3. "Jet-Connect Charter Bid System" - Search for this on Google only lists their current PR

There's probably more fishy things about this sale. I am not in an expert in how companies with investors work. So someone with expertise can chime in.

What do you think? is this sale legit?

Everything about it seems like BS.

seems legit!
"$30.18 million in cash and stock" = $10 in cash + stock

Who even wants stock in a company willing to pay $30M for this domain.

According to the PR, the official website will launch in April 2012. They could have just stuck this site on there as a place holder until then.

Exactly. This company could be worth anything it wants on paper, sure does not mean it is worth anything near that.

I wonder how much aprilfools.com would sell for (I know its February but I couldn't resist that one)

I got a feeling the seller sold to himself. He probably had a plan to launch a website and this is a perfect way to get some backlinks.

It's BS. No one in their right mind would pay so much for a 2 word, non category-killer domain unless it had other assets. If sex.com can't get even $20mil, then I'm pretty sure this report is fake.
