.tv Premium Renewal Kills another sale...

For the second time the $500 premium renewal has killed the sale of one of my names... In both instances the buyers balked, refused, and commented on the stupidity. As EQ knows, I am VERY ANTI premium renewal, this this does nothing but fuel the fire... 8-X

I've got no problem with "Premium Registration", but have said from day one that keeping the renewals at a premium level sucks and could hold the name space back. :td:

I know they make money via parking but how does that help the development of this extension? It only helps put cash in their pockets. ......

You answered your own question....as long as they are making money by parking it, why on earth would they lower prices to help domainers. In reality, it would only help domainers at the beginning because if every premium suddenly became standard reg fee, who the heck do you think would buy it first? An end-user? Hardly.

A domainer would snap it up and then flip it around a bit and sell it to an end user for more then what demand/verisign/enom/mothernature would get for premium.

I think the problem is that Verisign with their prices have made domainers pay end user prices, and lord knows a domainer NEVER wants to pay that.

My 2 cents.

Whilst i agree that premium pricing is a good thing, and as JohnTV has stated it has enabled many of us to aquire names which would have otherwise long since been registered.
I do believe that there could be a little more focus on the "Bigger picture".

Here's what i mean, In the good old days we were offered upto 70% discount on premium names,Verisign could offer these kind of discounts on names above $10k, lets take news.tv as an example, someone wants to reg this for 5 years but would like a 50% discount, DM and Versign get to sell one of their best names to someone who clearly has to develop it into a professional, succesful site to make it worth their while,DM pull in $1.25 million and News.tv gets developed into what would be a standard bearer site for .tvs,News.tv would require massive marketing on a global scale, therefore increasing the .tv brand, good news for us,Verisign,DM and .tv as a whole.
As has been said many times, DM and Verisign are businesses and as such, need to make profit,i just think this way they pull in cash , ride the hype of selling one of there best names whilst benefiting from the marketing that News,tv will be doing, which will ultimately have a positive knock on effect for future sales.

I also think we should lose the utter crap that is classed as premium, this also hurts the growth of the extension IMO.

I am a huge believer in .tv and overall i think the premium pricing is a good thing, i just think it needs a little tweaking here and there.

I always believed what was great about .tv was it let people who missed the .com train great names at cheap prices to have a second chance. No not as cheap as $7 but a lot of domains have been bought here for $25 that are great domains that were regged in .com in 99/02 at the latest. Premiums also gave those new a chance to acquire grreat domains and when I speak of Premiums imo I would never pay more than $1000. I can find the value in $500 keywords and LL.tv and LLL.tv
You hit the hammer on the nail, I was in this game end of 2004 and regged my first premium somewhere January 2005. Dot tv was the only extension where you could (and still can!) make up for being too late in .com, no other extension can do that imo.

At least they should consider revising the policy for the premium names. They can charge the premium prices during the initial registration, and afterwards the renewal fee should be the same as the non-premium names. If they modify their policy like this, 99% of top quality premium names will be sold within a day or two. Any thoughts?

Agreed, if they just charged the premium price for the initial registration, then the renewals whould be at the regular price of $24.95, those names would've been sold a long time ago
