Where do you think the domain industry is headed in the next 12 months?:

Will .COM value finally get real as speculators/investors trying to liquidate their accumulated assets for a "big" payoff after waiting out the dismal plummeting in .COM resale value in 2000-2003 - finally realise that the big time buyers are actually very few and far between?

Will the new gTLDs like .INFO and .BIZ introduced in 2001 finally see the light of day?

Will .CO.UK finally be forced to go 2LD into just .UK in line with the launch of .EU to the public late this year to "keep up with the times".

I have some predictions. But they're actually more like wishes:

1. Registrants be given more rights like, say, in the transfer dispute process.

2. There'll finally be a governing body that'll watch registrars conduct and
handle customers' complaints (though it's understandable it's a tough order,
given the amount of resources and manpower needed for such a venture).
And I'm not referring to ICANN...unless they can finally handle it.

BTW, I found this in another forum and thought I'd input it here:

Dropping Expiring Names:

In response to other registrars, the Go Daddy Group (GDG) will be modifying the way that domains Expire when a Back Order has been placed on the expiring domain.

The Current Expiration Process:

Presently, when a domain has expired the domain will be eligible for renewal for 40 days after the expiration date. On the 41st day the domain falls into the Redemption Grace Period at the registry allowing 30 more days for the prior registrant to keep the domain. If the domain is not renewed or redeemed within 70 days of expiration the registry drops the domain to make it available for public registration again.

Back Ordering gave an automated attempt to register a domain once it became available again. One flaw with Back Ordering is when a domain becomes available any registrar may attempt to acquire the domain.

The Future Expiration Process:

The upcoming adjustments to expiring domains will give the Go Daddy Group an edge on domains that have been back ordered though us when they expire. Once a domain expires the registrant will continue to have 40 days to renew the domain as usual, though if a Back Order has been placed on the domain from another Go Daddy Group Customer the domain will not enter the traditional Redemption Grace Period at the registry. Rather it will enter a mock redemption period at the respective Go Daddy Group Registrar to allow the prior registrant to redeem the domain for the standard fee. If the prior registrant chooses not to redeem the domain the domain will be automatically moved to the customer's account that placed the Back Order at the end of the 30 day mock redemption period.

This new policy will become effective with the Go Daddy Group Registrar.

It won't be long!
