Hmmm Alright, so I was searching for a particular crack on the internet yesterday for a download program I use, and I suddenly get one of them 'trust prompts' up where you need to click 'Yes' to continue.

So, I clicked yes, and minutes later I got a prompt from my virus checker telling me there was a virus... I do a full virus scan on all my drive twice, and nothing came back. I then scannedf the file it told me the virus was at, and I still got nothing. I shut my computer down.

I just switched it back on their now, and I have some program installed called 'Power-Scan'. I'm curious about it as I did not install it, nor does it show up in my Add/Remove programs screen.

Since coming onto the internet, I've recieved a few 'dirty' pop-ups advertising screen-savers/picture, but when you click on them it tries to download an .exe file.

I curious if there is a connection?

UPDATE - When I click on the 'Uninstall' button in the program, it links me to another download of an .exe file, named something like 'powerscan_remove.exe'. :o

I don't like the look of this. I'm not going to download it, yet.

Hmmm I took the gamble.

Downloaded the link, no virus found, and proceeded. Seems everything to do with 'Power-Scan' has disappeared from my computer. YAY!

This was just something I was curious on. I thought I'd get some help from you guys in case there really was a problem. I wouldn't fancy getting a bad virus on my new not-even-one-month-old machine! :p

Never click yes on the "trust" boxes except if you want a plugin such as a toolbar or update software (Windows). Otherwise: virus.

Run AdWare or any other spyware removal programs you have and they should flush that right out of there.

Your screwed.. :| PowerScan probably won't leave your system. I can't remember how I did it, maybe AdAware will work.. so I'd highly suggest doing that. I got rid of mine in the formart B-)

I can't find any traces of it on my computer, since deleting it, but I seem to be getting random pop-ups here and there.

No matter what site I'm on, or what I'm doing, an old pop-up sunddely decides to appear on me... From adult, to dating, to handbags. *shrugs*
