Hey everyone, I may have a potential programming job for somebody...
Some relatives of mine in the UK have an online business idea, which I'm not going to divulge directly, but I'm acting as an agent for them, and am pretty sure what the general structure of the website would be.
Basically, there would be some kind of payment interface (stating with Paypal, but also leaving open the possibility of a merchant account), which would allow the user to pay a small subscription fee (maybe $10 to $20), and start an account.
Once registered, each user would have a personal blog (www.sitename.com/user-name/) where they could post articles, photos, etc., in a sort of scrapbook format. Visitors should be able to leave comments for free on any subscriber's page.
This would essentially be a pretty traditional social networking-style website, which could be customized for use with a particular business idea. It will ultimately be integrated with an image map or collage-style home page (probably made with Flash), where visitors can click on a certain point to visit a 'blog' page within the site. Someone experienced in Flash will likely be needed to create this page.
Sorry for not being very specific but I don't want to give away the idea right away, as it's not copyrighted and potentially quite easy to steal. I can discuss it thoroughly with a skilled programmer after they sign a non-disclosure agreement.
Right now, I'm just looking for a ball park quote on how much a project like this would cost, as well as some basic info on what would be involved. I imagine that PHP would be a good programming language for such a website, but am definitely open to suggestions.
Please advise,
