Recieved this afew days ago, didn't reply/care because I dropped the name. What do you guys make of this? I haven't found anything on namepros regarding this information and wanted to get some information out on the internet to help people avoid getting screwed over.

The domain was registered at domainsite, this email contained no actual mention of my name, it did list the whois information. Also take note of the 'life time' option to register your domain name. This could easily suck people in.

The email came from '[email protected]'

Googling the address brings up

'Mailbox Forwarding, Inc.‎
2885 Sanford Avenue Southwest
Grandville, MI 49418
(877) 335-6245

It's not for domain renewals. It's for "search engine registration". It's designed to be confusing in the hopes people just pay it. Definitely scummy, but probably not illegal since it says it's not a bill, it's a solicitation. I've gotten them in the postal mail as well.

It has indeed been discussed on namepros numerous times, here's a few example links:

I had a google of it and didn't find much, I searched afew terms on namepros and didn't find them.

I love how dodgy this all smells yet people would easily be sucked in.

What keeps this company and others like it in business?

Got to remember, thousands of new people who have no idea about domains, registrars, etc. get a domain daily.
They can very easily fall for something like this because like I said, they are new and have no concept of exactly what they have or should do when they buy a domain.

Heck, look at the end users that you domainers love to sell to.
Again, most have no idea about domains and how to get domains, etc.
So they are easy game when it comes to selling them a domain at freakingly high inflated prices!
