PortlandMaine.TV signs contract with commercial TV Station
PORTLAND, ME AND SOUTH FLORIDA, June 8, 2007 —
PortlandMaine.TV (Maine’s Own Version of YouTube) has signed a contract
agreement with commercial television station WPME-TV to create and
generate new cutting edge local programming. The first test promotion will
take place later in June 2007 and will aim to produce a Maine Music
television show. Details of the show/contest will be released in coming
weeks. The goal will be to utilize the .TV brand extension and Web 2.0
tools along with the traditional media formats of television, radio and
press to revolutionize the way media generates local content and
entertainment, regardless of market size.
WPME-TV is a full-powered commercial TV station in the Portland-Auburn
Maine; 11 county area, (defined by Nielsen that includes two
Counties in northern NH plus nine counties in central and southern Maine).
WPME-TV is an affiliate of MyNetworkTV (MyTV), the new television network
from FOX, which carries popular shows including; The Simpsons, King of
Queens, The 70's Show, King of the Hill, Malcolm in the Middle, COPS,
Blind Date, South Park, Star Trek and network programs including the IFL.
WPME-TV is carried on both DirecTV and Dish Network satellite systems and
is also on all of the Time Warner cable systems in the Southern Maine
area. WPME-TV targets viewers and specifically males, 18-49 years old.
Maine has an estimated population of 1.3 million with roughly 2/3 of that
in southern and central Maine. WPME-TV is viewed by approximately 80,000
people tuning in each week to WPME-TV. This fall WPME will add new shows
such as Reno 911 and Dave Chappelle to the lineup.
PORTLANDMAINE.TV was just launched on May1st 2007 by "DJ Mindwrecker" and
is Maine’s own version of "YouTube", designed to give Mainer's a media
outlet to display and watch all that Maine has to offer. From bands, DJ’s,
producers, artists, film and photographers, comedians, business people, as
well as anyone who has an opinion or thought about Maine or the world,
