Porkbun has a marketplace but not a great (or even a good) one.
Only payout is via paypal.
Ok we don't want paypal payout, money can stay there for registrations or
renewals (do they allow it?).

When you try to list a domain they want sms verification.
Why sms verification. They can do email verification instead.
I think sms doesn't work internationally, or on all phones.
If someone has ability to send sms message, they can also send
*ware which would install something without your knowledge.
Also they can sell verified phone number to others (theoretically).

Selling is difficult, buying is easy. I mean, sellers can't commit fraud,
buyers can, by using someone else's card. Buyers are people who are making a payment,
and can theoretically dispute a charge.
Sellers probably won't list a domain and after selling it
complain about that sale.

When purchasing via card, we get sms, but
our bank sends the sms, not Porkbun.

Why sell at Porkbun if it is bad: because it is the only place to
sell handshake domains registered there. No marketplace
would accept them at this time.
Also instant transfer is always the best. And we don't want buyers to have
our info just to pay for the domain they are pretending to buy.

No other registrar marketplace has such a stupid requirement
on seller side.
I can own a number, and not actively use it, and still use
it as an input if needed to register something somewhere.
Not all numbers work on all phones, not all countries get sms,
lots of problems can exist with sms verification between registrar and user.
If it was a good thing, everyone would do it.
Plus I could get fake sms number, use it as phone number,
make the verification and list the domain.

Porkbun is not making things more secure, just making
them more complicated for normal people, and not more difficult for fraudsters
(and sellers can't easily be cheaters, this is why payment is made first, when
a domain is sold at a marketplace, buyers change their minds or complain about things , not sellers).

Their brand pornbun.com sucks as well.

Not a Kosher/Halal name, but still a good registrar. I'm complaining about their marketplace only.
And it didn't have to exist either. I mean, better than nothing, but they are not doing themselves a favor with
this stupid sms verification requirement.

I don't know about handshake domains but I've got a couple dozen names with porkbun and they are all listed for sale. It was super easy to list them, from my domain list, I just click on a field and enter a price. Changing nameservers is also insanely easy.

I've yet to have an SMS from them for any domain being listed (I just listed a couple last week). I do receive e-mails each time I log into my account which I don't like but Namecheap does those too. I'm located in the U.S. so maybe it's different for different countries?

I haven't read all of the T&Cs for Porkbun's marketplace but I am surprised to hear sellers have to eat the cost of a chargeback. That's usually covered under a marketplace's commission.

Edit: From the buyer side, I don't like Porkbun's marketplace. I wish these guys would copy what works from each others marketplaces to improve them.

I'm in the US too and don't receive texts when listing etc. For the record, you can turn off the successful login emails in your account settings at PorkBun. You can select to be notified of successful logins, failed login attempts or turn them off completely if I recall correctly.

I encountered the same problem today. I'm not in the United States, but my phone number simply can't receive the SMS. I submitted a ticket, and they replied asking me to call them for verification, but I can't make outgoing calls either; I can only receive calls. I guess their SMS verification only works for the United States, and most other countries can't receive the verification SMS.

This is a bit off topic, but when I was looking for a new registrar (because so many are crappy), I heard about Porkbun and decided to use them.
Initially, all seemed OK, but as I progressed with account registration and moving some names to them, something just didn't seem right about them. Its hard to describe what this feeling is based on, but it was enough to turn me off.
This thread suggests my feeling was correct.

I think they might be a bunch of fun guys behind it, but I will wait some time before I consider using them again.

I have come to see how many modern and upstart online companies are often ill-prepared as properly functioning businesses, in ways you would not have seen before the internet age.
How many companies have told you "We're working on it", "Thanks for sharing and we'll be sure to pass this on to the relevant dept" (the trashcan), "We know we can do better", and then they have the nerve to display a "roadmap for new features" or customer requested features, but which are usually their defects dressed up as "improvements" or "new features".

These companies also respond to criticisms by saying "We're new and so some time is needed for us to put those things into action", or "We're constantly improving our services", even though months and years go by and the problems remain. No, you arrogant dicks, you are supposed to have a ready and fully functioning product from the getgo, not just shove any old crap onto the web and then rely on customers and users to point out your shortcomings and do your quality control for you.
This is the same as software companies did before the internet.

Indeed, internet users are used as unpaid technical support staff when a problem exists with a company's site or service, and who are required to take time out of their day, sometimes over many hours, to provide information about the problem/defective product to the company.

OK, I'm done now and I'll now go and make a cup of tea.:coffee:

I have never used porkbun but I have never used them. All comments I have seen in the past were almost raving about them.

*Disclaimer - Please understand that my fanboy (of any company) days are well behind me - been burned too many times. I only stay with a company as long as I feel I'm getting what I want/need from them at the moment. If/when they do wrong by me, there's (almost) always another choice and I move on.

Ok, now for my actual reply.
This has been my experience with Porkbun. I agree that there's a different feeling about them. I was hesitant at first also. They're not fancy or pushy, their systems are fairly simple and I've grown to appreciate it. The few problems that I've had were dealt with fairly quickly and professionally. In the time I've been domaining (as a business), they've been my main registrar the longest.

I'm not trying to convince you of anything, just sharing my thoughts. If you do try them again, please let us know how it goes.

Who are you trying next?

Who are you trying next?
I am not trying anyone next. I currently use Spaceship and Dynadot (only when DD have deals). If better deals exist elsewhere and the companies aren't dicks, shady, criminals or have a poor website/interface, I'll check them out.
But I am like you, I don't have any loyalty to any company, for anything. If a company effs up, pisses me off, does wrong and does not correct it/voluntarily compensate me, or it is evident they don't give a shit, I just stop using them, straightaway and I never ever go back.

In the past, I had my favourite brands, like Sony for video stuff, Nikon for cameras and Miele for washing machines (one lasted over 25 years). I also like American washing machines as they are bigger than the puny European ones, and they are top-loaders, which is the sensible way of putting clothes in and clothes get washed properly in top loading machines. Plus, you can open the lid and add clothes after the cycle has started.
Front loading washing machines seem to have been invented because of a lack of space in European (& Asian) kitchens. Laundry rooms are common in the USA, even in low ends homes. They are far less common in Europe.
I'd also have a bunch of Aston Martin cars from the 1970s and Mercedes Benz cars if I had the free dosh and the space. There are other brands that I like.

But as time as gone on, many brands have become consumed by bigger and bigger entities and many of their products then become crap and no longer what they used to be. Mostly this has happened with Chinese monster companies.

It seems the era of great products is over for many brands (and has been for quite a while) and many of the new companies that have emerged over the last 25 years are often short term in their mindsets, have already gone out of business or they will be snapped up soon. Online businesses often have these factors accelerated and lifespans are short.

There just isn't any good stuff anymore. Stuff seems to be made to break down way too soon and apart from the loss of money and the time stolen from consumers from doing other things and having to search and go and buy another item, the 250 Mount Everest's of trash piling up on the earth and the sea is a disaster, for everyone and everything alive.
