Domain name singular vs. plural, which has a higher value. I am selling a 2 word xxxxxseafoods.com
The singular is for sale at $50k.

Thanks.

My opinion is that depends on the keyword and the niche you are aiming to.

well, the short of it:

Seafoods is not really a word

so i would put your name at a small fraction to the singular in this case

How much less. 1/5th?

maybe 1% or less

- hard to say since we don't know what the other word is

- seafoods is not a real word

- zero sales have been reported ending in "seafoods" so no comparables

- and, just because a name is listed for $50k - doesn't mean it is worth or sell for that much.

Never heard of Seafoods. Seafood, yes. Anyway, try your luck with some outbound, if you want:

absoluteseafoods.com
americanbayseafoods.com
americanseafoods.com

And there are many others.

There are a lot of words and spellings that have crept into common usage. For example "color" is a popular mis-spelling of "colour". In some ways, the popular usage has become more important than the "correct" usage. "foods" seems to be used when one is discussing a number of categories - for example " cheese and meat are popular foods". Which is best? Well the correct answer lies in your website traffic stats. :)

seafoods is a bit difficult as on its own it is only one category.

As many people mentioned it really depends on the actual keyword or combination. Also always use NameBio to see if similar domain combinations have sold and have they been plural or singular. Even by simply saying the name out loud you should be able to tell if it sounds right or not.

Generally speaking ...

Singular = Brand
Plural = Keyword intended for sales of the specific product

Unicorn = Nice brand name for just about any company
Unicorns = eCommerce site selling Unicorns

Keep in mind there are pretty much infinite exceptions going both ways.

As others have pointed out .. sometimes the plural doesn't even have an S at the end.

I don't think an S at the end of Seafoods is necessarily unworkable .. I've seen S at the end of food (Whole Foods I think is a big brand) .. I think foods likely falls into that exception .. but I would still take the advice above in that I think seafoods with an S might be a little less usable than without compared to just foods. But it definitely depends on the other word.

Also others have also mentioned, just because a name is listed for sale at a certain price does not mean it's actually worth that price at all.

Also .. a general % difference between singular and plural doesn't really exist .. it's really case by case. But these days the "brand" version is usually what people go for. But if the product is big and has a lot of sales online, then getting the plural for eCommerce purposes isn't a bad thing .. but for me in such cases the search numbers need to be very high and the domain needs to be very specific .. otherwise the domain is just about worthless more often than not.

Good luck with it! :)

Actually Unicorns are not very nice creatures. They are an invention by man, and were created to lead wild and free-spirited horses into captivity. Hence Obama and Theresa May are Unicorn politicians. Sorry - I just had to mention that. :)

It starts to get interesting when the word is at the beginning of the phrase. That introduces the addition of the use of a possessive "s", With all the possible mis-understandings, for example is girlscar "girl's car" or "girl scar".

I actually have a domain TWICE as good as Unicorn.com

Twonicorn // dot // com

I laughed when I saw it .. and then thought .. wait a minute .. this actually is a good brandable. A funny and memorable and easy derivative of a strong and popular word. It's actually one of my favorite sleeper underdog (/underhorse) domains. :)

Seen this thought of this thread especially "Unicorn"
A startup that makes cannabis oil for vaping wants to be America's first $1 billion 'marijuana unicorn'

It looks as if Unicorns peaked last april when Starbuck brought out a Unicorn frappuccino. I reg'd UnicornMeaning.com some time ago, and I want to use it as a political site. In the meantime, here is a picture of a tricorn, now this is a much more interesting subject ( and so is the hat :) ).

Just to keep this post on topic - is a tricorn a plural of Unicorn?
