Hello friends,

Sorry if this question has already been posted but I didn't find an answer:

If I wanna reg a domain, is it preferable to register the plural or the singular version of that name. e.g. names.com or name.com ?

Thank you. :cy:

It depends on the keyword.

But if both are avaliable reg. both.

ex.
If I had to choose between:
girl.com
girls.com
I would choose girls.com

If I had to choose between:
shop.com
shops.com
I would choose shop.com

If I had to choose between:
name.com
names.com
I would choose names.com

IMO, better to register BOTH if available. It won't cost much more, and it will be a plus at the time of selling ("in addition, the buyer will receive the singular / plural for free").

Otherwise, it is true that it depends, I agree with testingyou, his examples are well-chosen.

As "testingyou" wrote.

It depends on word. Mostly it's singular but sometimes plural is much better.

For example cell phones is +50% searched more the cell phone and as google takes domain name as very important relevant keyword it is nice extra.

Use http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com as it does have stats for both plurals and singulars.

Great advice! Especially the Google search trick (totally forgotten this one) :guilty:

be sure to use exact search if you're going the google route. either way, i'd first see which version (singular/plural) sounds better for the particular word(s) then go from there. finding the right fitting domain takes priority for me.
