Hi,

I'm an 18 year old hobbyist website designer/games programmer. I have two websites, and I'd be really greatful for any feedback on the designs:

1)
http://www.robinsgames.com
My personal website with the games I've made on it. Gets a small but steady flow of traffic (Most was 5000 hits in a day, lately seems to be picking up).

2)
http://www.darkbasicgames.com
I've literally uploaded this website today and haven't started advertising it anywhere, so I can't comment on the traffic as such - However I have high hopes for this one :) . As you can see it's a site for games made in Dark BASIC (A games programming language) As far as I know there isn't another site purely dedicated to dark basic games, (There's a showcase on the official site, but it's very out of date, and doesn't allow people to add their own reviews etc.) I'm still sorting out proper hosting for this site, so at the mo it's just on web forwarding

Any comments on either site are more than welcome. Both were made using Photoshop and 'hand coded' in notepad with html.

Many thanks,

Robin

For #2, you could put ads on the side or blend the graphics more.. The games are nice, but the site is not as attracting as some others I would go to

Hi - thanks for the reply.
The reason I left it blank is because when it's viewed in 800x600, the content remains centered and the borders 'move in' cutting out the white space either side. It would kinda mess that whole thing up if I put something down the side...I'll try and figure out something I can do to spice it up a bit though ;)

Anyone else with any comments?

What are you trying to accomplish with the sites? Generate interest in your games, generate revenue, showcase your work?

It would be easier to give feedback if you could share what you'd like the sites to do.

That said....your newest site looks very simple and clean..in a good way..both load quickly as well.

Thanks for the replies.

With my personal site robinsgames.com, it is purely a place where I showcase my games to show what I've made, and possibly any works in progress that might be underway. Just my personal 'presence', something I show people who ask what games I've made.

With my latest site there's two main intentions:

1) To be a showcase of the best games made in Dark BASIC - my specific target market is people who are interested in dark basic, and would like to see what it is capable of, see the types of games which have already bmeen made, and get inspired to learn DB. Of course the website is also a good stop for anyone who just wants to download a little game off the net.

2)To generate (hopefully) a bit of revenue. This is the only website of it's kind online - the official dark basic website has a very dated showcase, and doesn't have the ability to let users add their own reviews.

I'm hoping over time it will become recognised as the first stop for someone wanting to play some games written in DB, at least with in the DB comunity.

hmm why does it say the last reply was by 'whiipyahead'....anyway

thanks for the comments. After these first few days for darkbasicgames.com I've been getting a daily average of over 2000 hits, up to nearly 5000 on one day. That said, it hasn't appeared in google/other search engines yet (It's still got some entries from the previous darkbasicgames.com which are from years ago). I'm also hoping to get a plug in the DB newsletter at the end of this month (Which goes out to about 12,000 people!)

revenue wise...haha well it's early days. i changed the add format based on some stuff i was reading on several sites. they now blend in more - hopefully it'll get more than 1 or two clicks/day!
