Hi,

So I've just re done the layout for my site Music-Whiz.com Music Database

I'm looking for any feedback you might have - good or bad.

Thanks,
Richard

At my work I only have IE6 (not by choice) and it is tough to follow, a lot going on. The page doesn't seem to flow, right side div box sizes are all different widths and are crammed against the left side div boxes. The right side margins don't line up all the way down, very in and out.

I know a lot of sites don't design for IE6 anymore so you might be ok, my company just needs to upgrade the browsers.

Thanks for the feedback. I checked it in IE6 myself yesterday and I saw exactly what you saw. I know it looks terrible, but I did decide not to support IE6 with this layout.

The main reason being that even google are phasing out support for IE6 from next month - so I figured if a big company like that stops supporting IE6, how can a one man show be expected to have the time to support IE6? Plus I think Google's decision to stop supporting IE6 will push a lot of businesses to upgrade.

I really don't think its fault free - but thanks for the feedback and thanks for a taking a look :)

A big company like Google can afford to alienate 10-17% of the internet. Can you?

Other than that, I have no quarrels with the site - it flows well, is really simple (which I like, but it almost feels bland, like unseasoned food).

Good job, I'd reconsider IE6 support.

I appreciate rep points if you've found this useful.

Thanks for the feedback.

IE6 browsers only make up about 5% of the browsers that visit my site according to google analytics. So it's not that big of a deal. I agree that Google can afford to lose a portion of their site visitors whereas any loss in visitors is bad for me, but I think that this will be the push that a lot of users need to upgrade their browsers. I'd expect to see a big drop in IE6 usage over the coming 6-12 months.

The reality is that as long as web designers continue to support IE6, those people who are using it have no reason to upgrade.

The time/effort spent for me to support IE6 could be spent on more productive things. I'm sure that I could easily increase site usage by more than 5% to cover the lost IE6 users.

I get what you mean about the unseasoned food analogy. Theres a lot of work to do, and I have plenty of ideas to try to make it more lively, but its hard when there isn't a constant flow of regular site users. At the moment I'm trying to using social tools to keep the site in peoples minds, and I'm hoping that will help.

I like the theme - it definitely suits a music genre website. Also, the ads blend in very well with your theme which is VERY important in my opinion.

Thanks for the feedback. Im not really a fan of obtrusive ads that stick out either. In all honesty, I'd rather not need to show ads at all, but like everyone else, I need every cent I can get.
