Please help me : Bidding without payment

Hi NP guys,

Here is my situation.
My auction finished at Sedo around two days ago. Then, Sedo informed me that my buyer canceled the transaction.

How should I deal with this situation? He break the contract obviously.
Can I pursue legal process? How?


Pls share your idea to get me out of this situation.

Review the Sedo terms of service but your options are pretty limited because you do not know who the buyer was.

I don't know what the domain is but the cost of legal action may not be justified by your loss.

If you read these boards you will see numerous posts about this same problem at Sedo. Without some type of a credit card on-file situation or deposit, I expect this will continue to be a problem.

wow, I am quite surprised that this is not a big deal... I thought this is serious issue.

So, do you guys havs any suggestion for other websites that I can sell and get money? I am not sure. I know only afternic, sedo, godaddy... that's all

Depending on the quality of the name you can always try to reach-out directly to an end-user and use and escrow service like escrow.com.

You can post names for sale here at NP or in one of the NP live auctions.

I don't think Sedo can really do much. However I'm quite certain that they have closed the buyer's account for buying and selling.

So in the end you lose out of a sale, but the buyer is probably banned forever..

What you also can do is send or phone Sedo and ask them if they can contact the under bidder to see if he/she wants to buy the domain.

Sedo buyers flake constantly. The question is how large was the sale? Technically, they are contractually obligated to complete the sale - however if the sale isnt big enough - its silling to pursue a legal action (because of the cost)....

If this was a xx,xxx domain sales - then yes, it might be worth pursuing legal actions, anything less? Unlikely.

Is it a big deal !!? If so, contact your Sedo rep and inform him about the buyer who breakup the contract. Make sure, what was written on the terms & conditions. This happens with Sedo, as they don't have anything in their hands.

It's very common and there is nothing you can do about it. Of course there are things you can do but they are time consuming and costly, therefore eliminating those options as true options. Best thing you can do is keep your domain, re-list, and move on. Sedo will do nothing, they are merely commission collectors they brush off any responsiblity to the buyer and or seller.

You just better hope it doesn't happen too many times to you. Sedo will then turn around and put the blame on YOU and UNpark all your domains, even the ones you just shelled out $9.00 for for a category showcase listing. Thanks again Sedo!!

The final bid is $2,500... it may not much for some people, but for me... it is quite big.

I tried my best to reach the contact with this bidder.

- He confessed that every bid is just TRYING ( ??? )
- His offer was just TRYING ( ??? )
- He confirmed that he does not have money...
- So, please for get about this issue.....that's all


About second bidder, unfortunately, Sedo told me it is the same company account...
I do not understand totally about this issue ... I try to get over it.

Anyhow, I feel he should respond in proper way. This is business. I do frustrate.

Between Sedo and Godaddy, i think, there are much more chances of fake bidding on Sedo,because they dont check your payment details upon registering an account, and dont ask for any deposits. Anyone can open up a pseudo account and shill bid on his own entries. I think, some kind of deposit is necessary,even if its a small amount,like on godaddy.
Now $4.99 for a year to bid and sell in an auction may not seem much, but atleast it keeps fakers at bay.Nobody would keep opening new accounts,paying 5 bucks everytime only to post fake bids and get banned,right? And even if someone doesnt pay, the creditcard/paypal information in godaddy's database will make sure that they dont register again under a new username to prevent future fake bids.

Sedo needs to do something similar to keep the nonpayers at bay.
