Hello,

I'd really like to know your appraisal for the domain

TheStoryBehind.com

which is on auction at Sedo till Friday, 7th August, 7:00 a.m. EST!

There are over 2.7 million Google search results for the exact keyword combination "the story behind", which is obviously one of the most frequently used phrases of the entire news/media world.

Lots of people told me that this was a very valuable domain especially for news and media organizations, giving them a unique power of definition and authority to tell, yeah, "the story behind"! So, if I were one of the so-called national/international "opinon makers", I would certainly want this domain with its huge potential to be on the "right side of history" or of the "story", (whatever I'd define that to be).

In my opinion, the current bid is WAY below of what you would expect for such a uniquely brandable domain (considering the crap that's being sold all the time for several thousands of dollars), and even Estibot puts this domain at a value of $US 2,200.

What do you think? Shouldn't there be some considerable movement upwards till the auction ends?!

Best wishes,
CopaSurfer

Zero. IMO.

Hi,

The 'the' part of the domain kills it IMO.

Good Luck with your auction

Zero. IMO.

How can you say the domain is worth $0 when there is a $300 bid on it?

I doubt the domain will get any more bids but apparently its worth $300 to somebody. So the value of your domain name is worth the result of the auction.

Good luck and I hope you get more bids.

$300 is a miracle offer for this name.
Undeveloped this name is regfee.
If it's a legit bid I will be amazed. If the numbers go up I will be more amazed. Don't expect much upward movement IMO.
I hope you get something decent for it, i just don't expect it.
Good luck!

Well, I exchanged some messages via Sedo with the current bidder, and he seemed very "legit" indeed. It's obvious that for domain that features such a frequent term of the news/media arena, there should be plenty of potential end-users that would be very happy to distinguish themselves by telling their audience "the story behind". So, I'm a bit suprised by the constantly negative reactions on this board. I wonder where all those sales of three- and four-word-domains in the thousands come from - according to the logic that seems to be applied here, none of them would have ever occurred...

Thanks for wishing me good luck, though.

How can you say the domain is worth $0 when there is a $300 bid on it?

People pay too much for things everyday. And, we don't even know if that's a legitimate offer/bid. If he actually gets the $300, he's pulled off a miracle and gets kudos from me.

Hopefully this thread is well intended and not being used to drum up more offers on a worthless domain. IMO.

actually a huge part of the so called "auctions" on sedo are FAKE auctions, started by "friends" or the seller himself. You just have to check the WHOIS some weeks after the auctions (either it has not changed, or it is PRIVATE now lol, or it is always the same buyer lol )

I don't want to say that this is the case here, no (we will check this after the sale! ;)), but your argument is not valid and irrelevant!

It is inacceptable and insulting to imply that I have started this auction myself or a friend of mine has done so. I am suprised and somehow shocked by the arrogance and ignorance of some people here who obviously don't even shy away from defamation of character to "validate" their "arguments", when reality has already proven them wrong.

Reg fee to everyone

Interesting that you feel entitled to speak for everyone.

Coapsurfer. You asked for an appraisal, people gave an appraisal, you don't have to agree with them but please respect them.Saying one person is speaking for the whole community is rediculous,he was giving his personal appraisal regardless of what price it may or may not sell for.

Whats more HQ never implied that you did anything wrong. He gave an answer not implying you.Time for you to calm down a bit and enjoy the $300 sale of a Reg fee domain.

Copa.Don't take it personally. From the content of the comments you can discern that some of the members may be mere children. In the Internet you never know who is talking to you.To the point:
your domain is excellent.I think you are looking at low X,XXX for an end user.Good luck.
By the way,may be that some of the efforts to put down your domain are intended to influence down the process of your auction.Be careful.

i didn't say that this was the case here.
my comment was an answer to this:

"How can you say the domain is worth $0 when there is a $300 bid on it?"

in fact, in the part of my post which you just ignored, i mentioned that i am not talking about this particular auction.

good luck with your auction

i have never read such a childish post in the forum here.

you are just saying these because of the recent appraisals on your names.
dont think that people are stupid.

I see potential as a developed domain name but the value is not much. It is being searched broadly and not specificly. It's like becauseof.com... what comes after the 'because of' is what specifies the search but programs like keyword analysis and estibot can not differentiate between. Would you pay xx,xxx for becauseof.com, because of the search average or because of estibot's estimate? Just my oppinion but I would say it's worth reg to xx.

If you do a g00gle search for "the story behind" the search results are 2,690,000 but if you look to the right of the screen you will see that only the words 'story behind' are in blue and underlined. Unfortunately you have misinterperated the results. As previous posters have already said, this name is part of a phrase and something that machines can not pick up on. You are lucky to get a bid of $300 and I hope you get more, but I fear that someone has made a mistake. Also the comments about auction bidding are true, they are a common occurrence. This is why you see a lot of people having their accounts closed when they get caught.

ok the auction of this "$2.200" Name is over.
now i am curious if the "buyer" will pay, and if yes, what he will do with this name!
could be the owner of the .net or .de though ( i guess .de, they even have registered trademark with "the story behind"), thats the only one i could imagine who could have been interested in this domain name

Well, just for your information, the payment has already been made and transfer of the domain is on the way.

And no, the buyer (without quotes) is not from my country (we never had any contact before) and obviously he's just a smart individual who recognized that "the story behind..." IS a key phrase in the news and information world. And again, no, I have not "misinterpreted" any numbers: There ARE over 2.7 million search results for the exact keyword combination "THE story behind" at Google, and that speaks for itself.

Good job CopaSurfer! Still don't understand how or why, but congratulations!

Congrats CopaSurfer.

still, your argument about the search results are totally irrelevant in appraising a domain name.
IMO you were just lucky with this sale (but this is of course only my opinion). obviously the name was 300 worth to somebody else.
however, i don't want to keep on discussing about this as the sale is over and it is time for a glas of champagne.

good luck with your other names and all the best.
