domain Please Appraise thepokerstars.com

Got this domain not far ago. Going to build simple website there but mainly for increasing domain value.

My knowledge is limited, I'm the first to say. But I can't imagine a TM in the US, being gambling is illegal. Others will clarify...

Legality of gambling has no bearing on intellectual property, I am not a lawyer but it is a TM issue for certain $0 value.

Gambling in the States is not illegal, otherwise what would everybody do in Las Vegas? Online poker is a different matter though.

I think you may have some TM issues due to the fact that it is confusingly similar to an online poker site called pokerstars.

I would be interested to see what others say in regards to this name.

Agree that there is $0 value (or negative, depending on how you weigh liability & cost issues), due to the well established site PokerStars.com. As mentioned earlier in the thread, it is "confusingly similar" and therefore, I can pretty much guarantee that if you tried to do anything of substance with the name, their lawyers would be all over you like white on rice. My advice: Take the high road, delete the name, and move on to greener pastures.

I think there's only TM issues here on how it's applied. There's poker stars just like movie stars and sports stars. It's border lining a generic term here.

It can go either way, but I think there is just as strong a case to say there aren't TM issues as there is a case of TM issues.

Would love to hear other opinions on this one for sure.

I side w/ no TM issues here as I think it a generic enough term. However, I'm no professional and this is only my educated guess.

Didnt expekt such valuation and so big attention to TM issue.
Definetely, as i thought before, this domain have value because on the domain pokerstars.com we have top1 poker room in the world.
So my thoughts was to build simple website on thepokerstars.com all about pokerstars.com poker room and collect some traffic from 'pokerstars' related keywords. Why pokerstars lawyers should kick me from the domain if i am generating sales only for their company in a proper legal way as affiliate?
If this idea makes any sense, why domain doesnt have at least 350-500$ worth?

That would most certainly be considered bad faith and could land you in lots of hot water.

The way you plan to use it is in fact, a very clear breach of TM law.

Yes, doing it this way is the worst way it can be done.

In my mind if it's about "poker stars" as in the following the top world poker tour players then that can be the only possible way to avoid it. However, I don't know half about this stuff as some of the members here. I'm just going off some of the stuff I read on generic terms etc, etc.
