Hi,

I am new to this forum, and to the domain name business in general, so hi to you all! :)

I've recently acquired kwiksaver.com, boutiquebuys.co.uk, and streetwearshop.co.uk and intend to develop them by creating mini-sites (with advertising) that will hopefully gain traffic over time.

Exact keyword searches didn't show a high number of searches. But as shop/affiliate fronts, they seem to have quite a lot of potential.

What are other domainers' views on this? Would these names' resell value increase once their traffic has gone up? What is a good margin to aim for?

Still learning the ropes, so appreciate any feedback!

Thanks,
Martella

kwiksave is a supermarket in the UK - Possible trademark issues on that one - so $0

Kwik Save actually went out of business in like 2007 I think, or for the most part they did. Plus a quick copyright search doesn't turn up anything. So I would say the domain is a little over 9 years old which is good, and similar sales seem to average around $1000. For keywords you have less than 10 exact a month on google, but saver is always a good word. The Kwik Save store proves it was a good name and its still recognizable today. I'd say it is worth almost $2000 but are you going to get that for it, probably not. Cut it in half or even more and you will hopefully be good. I guess it all depends on who you are selling to a domainer or an end user.

Seems like the trademark expiry was 2006, but its still showing as registered.

Costcutter the parent co are still in existence, so they'd probably be the ones to say anything.

Problem is, who wants to start up a company under the same name as a failed company? Especially considering they'd probably have to purchase the rights to the name anyway.

as for the saveR on the end, I wouldn't know what effect this would have, but kwick save have trademarks covering pretty much every category; so I guess unless you were starting a savings/bank type company or something you're probably likely to infringe one of those.

I thought I'd chime in with my 8 shillings worth.

I must admit, I quite like boutiquebuy, but I think you'd have to develop it. Le Boutique co uk went for ยฃ1250 on Sedo in 2010, but that's like the perfect boutique name; even then it probably went to the ideal end user.

Streetwearshop would be good to develop as an urban shop - hoodies, trackies, trainers etc. Get a copy of opencart installed on that and find a dropship supplier imo.

Many thanks for your replies, it is very encouraging as much of this I hadn't thought of!

About kwiksaver.com, I will know next time to do my research before buying the domain name. Really useful to know about the ipo website, thanks! I did notice that there is a website kwiksaver.co.uk that is for a (local) food discount store in Leeds. Aren't they infringing then too?

My idea for kwiksaver.com would probably be something like a coupon / voucher site. Looking at the "List of goods or services" at www.ipo.gov.uk, I don't see any direct correspondence - all their goods are tangible. Would this still constitute infringement? Can infringement rely on similarity to the name only, or does the goods have to be the same too?

PS: I'm not too wedded to the name. I got it for a registration fee and having to let go of it does not bother me too much. On the other hand, if it's worth keeping I should - sounds like it will be worth something if the infringement doesn't come into play!

I definitely intend developing boutique buys and streetwear shop. Thanks for the suggestions!

A domain alone ( just the domain ) might go up by itself ... but usually it is easy to make a business of it and sell as a income business.
Otherwise ( without traffic/revenue ) it's hard.
