.tv PHPMotion - Free Video Sharing Script

Not sure if this one has been mentioned before, but I have just come across this script ( http://www.phpmotion.com ) and thought that other members here might find it pretty useful.

Looks like they have a good number of people using the script, as well as having add-ons and mods being made available.

I have just downloaded it myself, and am gonna have a go and see how it works.

Looks nice and seems to have lots of customizable features. Would be pretty easy to skin.


Judging by the requirements, you would be looking for a very specialized hosting account, or a dedicated server.

If I get some free time, I may try this out with a modified skin.

The program that I was thinking about using was PHPmotion, but it seems that they have a lot of requirement to run the program.
Probably needs a dedicated/virtual dedicated for this.
Requires ffmpeg, lame mp3, etc

Imo, I think this is the best youtube clone out there. It's also free (Although some mods cost money, but it's worth it).

Any way we can modify it to embed videos? (to reduce bandwidth consumption of hosting the videos)

these guys support it even on their shared hosting plans: apthost.com
they'll even install one copy free of charge ( $25 for additional installs ), but i installed it myself quite easily.

that was my thought as well.

I would be surprised if you couldn't embed versus upload, but you never know.

I simply don't have time to test right now, but if someone else wants to, I would love to find out if you could.

I've uploaded everything, chmoded all the files and folders as required, but the page doesn't load for installation.

I would say that a shared hosting server would get overloaded very quickly with many of these sites.

Embedding is not yet possible from what I can tell.

I went to their forum, and it seemed as they might add this feature sometime in the future.

It's a nice paid feature, but I haven't seen a demo of it yet.

Otherwise, I can upload it to another domain name as an example, but everything is exactly identical to the demo atm.

possibly, depends on traffic i think, no traffic = no load! i was going to get a vps from hostforweb for my project, but i decided to start off with my normal shared hosting account and then migrate/upgrade later if the traffic demanded it. then the guy who was going to be providing original content failed to come up with the goods, so i'm glad i didn't go straight to the vps.

It could be that your current server doesn't meet the requirement to install phpmotion.

Are you referring to the one response to the embed feature request?

Yeah, kinda funny response. "You might as well start a blog"... oh, so how come you're selling a youtube embed mod for 40 bucks?

I've not looked at the code ( its open source ), but I can't see how it would be that hard to create a proper embed mod.
