Being in touch with many domainers, I found that many private sales occur that are not reported. From what I've seen, I guess the majority of domain sales are not reported.

From your experience what percentage of the domain sales are reported? And how does this affect the industry?

I think sales data only helps the industry, by making it more transparent, and by promoting the industry in a whole.

Its a very good question but pretty much impossible to say without guessing as there is no one source of information - When you say reported - do you mean on the likes of DnJournal ??

My "Guess" would be less than 5 % go reported.

Think of all those low xx to high xxx names at snapnames, namejet, sedo, TDnam, forums etc each week that never make the public "print".

On the other scale names like Motorcycle.com have changed hands recently with no mention anywhere (except the whois).

Of course I'm just guessing :)
