I had posted a name for review in the past. But did not get any evaluations. I have now recieved an offer on the name parcked at Sedo. I felt I should reply with not only a fair value asking price but also to ask advise on appraisal.

Should I state the nane here in open forum?
Should I have evaluated professionaly?
Should I shoot high but aim low?

Thank you

How much was the offer?
Only 224 OVT with the "s", over 3000 without it
Google search shows 323,000.. kinda low
.org doesn't fit the word that good
On the "oes" version stats aren't that good with OVT or Goog.

BUT, if there is someone making an offer onthem, they're obviously worth something to someone.. If they were mine, I'd probably try to get around $300+/- out of Innuendos.org.. I would counter $500 for the pair and go down from there. I wouldn't let them both go for less than $350 or so. If they've offered more than $500. I'd say take it!!!

Just my 2c

Good Luck

Thank you

I wrote down something similar. slightly higher but I'm no pro. I apreciate the time and input in your review.

Also it feels good to have written down something so close to what you came to.

Thank you namenut

No offense Barefoot, I think you're good, but if someone was making an offer on a couple of your domains, you would only ask for $20 each? :|
That's what I was basing my appraisal off of. He did say "Please help me reply to an offer". If I had never gotten an offer on them and wanted to get rid of them.. them maybe $50 for both.

Anyway, Cheers

If the offer is anything $xxx, then accept the offer made but add the sedo and escrow fee to the buyer unless the offer is =>$300.

You should:
1. Research the buyer
2. Research the buyer
3. Research the buyer

And then do whatever else might be appropriate such as replying to the buyer, considering pricing, etc.

Good Advice. Always try to find out who is making the offer.

When receiving an offer via Sedo, how can you research the buyer. The Sedo system is anonymous, so it seems hard to know who they are... unless you know of a way...

When I read this I just think that if I am buying I would try to hide myself, and if the seller asks, its none of his bloody business, particularly if his sole aim is to jack up the price. Don't forget that this forum is for domain buyers as well as sellers.

Well, if possible,it's in the the seller's interest to find out as much as they can about the potential buyer, if possible. I don't think many people will disagree on this. I didn't mean by writing thebuyer and saying" Hey, you're the guy that's trying to buy my domain, aren't you?" :p It's just common sense that you don't do that.
But, if you have an email address, like in some occasions, why not try and find out who's doing the offering, by researching behind the scenes? Just makes sense to me.

Cheers

I'd ask 10X the initial offer and go from there.

asking 10 times the asking price works if you know a little about the buyer having a lot to spend... otherwise it could scare him off

True but,

a buyer will never initially offer the full amount he/she's willing to spend on the name.

A serious buyer who REALLY wants the name will try to negotiate even if your asking price is too high for his budget. You can always work from his counter-offer.

But yes, you'll probably scare away the resellers and the lookie-loos.

It all depends on the seller's business plan, really, and the preceived quality of the domain in question.

The OP only said he received an offer for a name parked at Sedo, not that he received an offer via Sedo. It's entirely possible that he received an email sent to the administrative contact as opposed to an offer through Sedo.

Even if it was an offer through Sedo, if the name is parked the right way you can probably still get some information about the buyer. In theory the OP does have it parked the right way. Depending on what features the services he is using provide he would have access to this information I'm referring to.

Every bit of information you can glean is useful. For example, the fact that a buyer is trying to hide his identity is useful. It basically means he has more money than he wants to pay for the name. If they email the admin contacts instead of clicking “buy this name” on the parking page it tells you they at least know what whois information is.

They probably visited the site, if for no other reason than to see if it was developed. Unless you screwed up on your parking (ie used Sedos name servers) you should be able to see this visit. Lots of useful information here if you know what to do with it. You'd be amazed how many “starving students” make enquiries using hotmail addresses from the executive offices of a multi million dollar company that has a new product/service with the exact same name as your domain.

Of course if you got your parking really really right then you'll be able to see around proxy servers, view the log of DNS queries, and collect a myriad of useful information regardless of whether they used the web contact form or sent you an email.
