Pb with background (css)

hello,
i try to place a background on my site with a css.
it work when i open it on my hard disk but it doesn't with the server, the background image doesn't appear in any pages where i used a css.. and if i take off the css, i have a repeated background which looks very ugly.so, i'm not sure what to do..can you help please?thanks (ps: i use internet explorer and i heard the css works with IE?)

maby it has sumthin to do with ure version of IE... a link wuld also be nice so we could view it and try to help u by looking at ure source
