I just now found out that PayPal offers a security key for added protection.

Even though I am very disappointed recently with PayPal in the way they handle some things related to scammers, I am happy to see this new security key they are offering.

Check it out Here: https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=xpt/cps/securitycenter/general/PPSecurityKey-outside

I am going to order mine first thing when I wake up tomorrow!, it's only $5. How could I refuse the added protection to my account and a new, cool keychain.. :)

It also works with Ebay and they are partnering with VeriSign so that it can be implemented on a number of websites around the world.

I would love it if this device worked for all of my websites that I log into, including NamePros, DP, MySpace and everything else. Wouldn't it be great if they all agree to use this device and make it even cheaper for their members! (Although 5 bucks is pretty cheap IMO)

It says the $5 price tag is intoductory and I believe it, better get yours now.

I really think this will do well, what are your opinions? Is it hackproof? Do you think it's a step in the right direction?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

Or you could just make your password complicated? I don't see the point.

My pass is very complicated, long and complete non-sense.. LOL.

I'd love to be able to have a less-complicated password actually.

What would happen if you lose it or break it?

Check out the YouTube video I posted. The PayPal guy explains it, I believe.

If you lose or break your key you can still access your account but you will have to answer a series of pre-set security questions in order to bypass the key code step. From there you can turn off the key feature untill your new key arrives.

I just activated it, and it works... you can even enter your password follow by the 6 digit security key to skip the second login page asking for security key.

I'm not about to give PayPal one more device to help keep me from my money... As well, if (When) this does get hacked (somehow), it gives them one more finger to point at me (you) as the culpable party for my (your) loss of money.

Nope - the best defense here is giving PayPal only what it needs, nothing more.

I had that thought as well for a sec. Then i found myself trying to log into eBay today and suddenly sat in front of a box demanding the code...
At first i thought: "What the....!!! What code now???!!!" :yell: Then it fell like scales off a fish, the keycode....i had totally forgotten about the lil' fob. Retrieved, button pushed, entered, voila! I'm in.

Correct me if i'm wrong with this one; Phishing is a virtual impossibility with the security key. Even if someone obtains my login and password, they get stuck latest when they need to enter the unique code. Unless somehow figures out in which sequence the key fob generates the codes, get me to re-activate a key fob on a phishing site, enter 2 unique codes subsequent to the reactivation, etc.
Frankly, i'm almost certain that this key fob is hacker proof for the time being.

...and this is coming from a person that doesn't really care much for "the establishment" of eBay and PayPal. ...that's scary...

I think it's a cool idea but I don't want to be part of the beta test or carry anything else in my pocket. I can picture it now, I go out leave my key at home, forget the answer to my security questions or type the answer in the wrong case, spend 5 minutes looking for PayPal's phone number, another 15 with them on the phone so they will let me in my account....I don't know it seems like a lot of work to log into the account. It is a great idea though.

...what happens when the battery runs out?

Just crack the little thing and then replace it? I haven't found any official statement from PayPal anywhere. It would just really stink when you're trying to log into eBay, wanting to buy that super domain you had your eyes on for the past week, then you realize you can't login because your little security fob is out of juice D-:

I have one for my business checking account at a US bank. They issued it as part of their security services. Free! (Yeah, 'm sure if I got a breakdown on my fees, I'd find that they charged me for it).

I can think of a half dozen situations where I would not have this thing with me but need to access paypal. Has anyone in their research online found a discussion thread somewhere where real users are sharing their experiences over a 6 to 12 month period? Thanks!

I have one and it works great. Also these things use so little battery use that it would probably last 5 years at the least.

I put it on my car keychain, so it's always with me.
