PayPal disputes

I understand that they wish to protect both themselves and buyer/seller from fraud - but!

However, I sold a name on 3rd Jan, buyer duly paid but for some reason omitted address from transaction. In the interim I transferred some of the money to my bank account- that was also reversed.

Due diligence from paypal reversed all transactions but funds were NOT sent back to buyer pending investigation.

5th Jan both myself and buyer confirmed transaction to paypal.

My account is now negative and the funds were NOT sent to my bank account i.e the $1500 has disappeared and I cannot use my account unless I add the funds back to my account that were supposedly transferred to my bank which of course are now in cyberspace or wherever.

I cannot get a simple answer from paypal as to why this is still ongoing- only standard " we are investigating" replies.

In the meantime my account has in effect been frozen since 3rd Jan and they want me to pay back the money that THEY have somewhere to put the account in order!

Bloody frustrating - worst of all we had started escrow- decided to use paypal because of the charges at escrow.com - if we had stayed with escrow would have been done and dusted by now.

Just my rant regarding what I consider to be over cautious but mainly lack of "real" replies from paypal.

It doesn't really surprise me. Paypal, being an Ebay company, as well as Skype...Terrible support IMO.

That said I'm not clear on why the address was a factor at all.

What is a confirmed address?

* When a buyer’s credit card billing and postal addresses are the same.
* In some cases, PayPal has examined the buyer’s PayPal account history.

How a buyer can confirm an address.

Inform your buyer about how to confirm their address by communicating the following options:

1. Add a credit card to their PayPal account. PayPal will confirm the credit card billing address (the address where you receive your credit card statement).
2. Apply for PayPal Buyer Credit. If they're approved, the address on your application will be a confirmed address.
3. Alternative address confirmation. This process takes several days and is only available for US accounts. To learn more, log in to your PayPal account and visit Alternative Address Confirmation.

Must have something to do w/ the option selected when sending payment for the domain (Goods, Services, eBay items, etc.)

Did the buyer verify their address anyway?

Yep- all confirmed on 5th Jan!

Unbelievable outcome :td:

"Because we determined that you did not meet the eligibility requirements
for the PayPal Seller Protection Policy, you are being charged for this
reversed transaction. We've returned the funds to the PayPal account
holder, and your account will be debited for the amount of this transaction."

Both myself and seller reconfirmed the transaction 14 days ago and now paypal in their "wisdom" have returned the funds to "buyer" and charged me for it :!:

Try calling up Paypal & discussing the issue. I had one of my issues sorted out with a senior representative.

My suggestion is to call PayPal directly. And talk with someone. Show them you are in good faith and explain exactly what happened.

my calls to paypal always resolved the problem in the past

When you call you have to ask for a manager though, the reps there are worthless. I wasted a lot of time on a transaction getting the run-around from reps... finally asked to speak with a manager and she fixed my problem while I was still on the phone with her.

Unfortunately they, paypal, have already done the damage, the funds were sent back to buyer and he had received the name just before paypal decided to "dispute" the payment.

I could probably understand this decision if there had been complaints from either buyer or seller but for paypal to do it with this result is scandalous. :td:

In addition they have charged me and buyer and made a hadnsome turn on two currency conversions.

I now have to rely on the buyer being honest and settling accordingly - outside of paypal :!:

I explained to them, how inefficient their support is. She told me that, we're improving on it.

But sadly, I don't see any improvements.

But at least you can get them to remove the negative balance from your account since the money isn't sitting in your bank account.
