Hi Everyone,
Newbie domainer here and I’m experimenting with domain parking while I try to develop and sell some of my domains. All of my domains are hand-registered and they are listed for sale at Afternic and Sedo with “Make an Offer” settings.
I have just over 100 domains currently parked at Afternic; half of them have been parked there for about 2 weeks and the other half have been parked there for about 1 week. So far I have received nearly 400 total visits for the portfolio (almost all of those are unique visitors). Two domains that I expect to have some of the greatest amount of traffic are still awaiting verification to be parked. I have not received any clicks yet.
I did not buy any of these domains because of traffic and I did not expect to make any money from parking but it is interesting to monitor the parking traffic. Some of the names that are receiving pretty consistent traffic is a real surprise to me because many of them have zero exact match searches each month (only a handful of my domain phrases receive more than 300 exact match searches each month). I know this is very, very, very tiny traffic but it’s kind of exciting for me as a newbie and I’m logging into my account daily to see the new numbers.
A few questions have occurred to me about parking traffic and I’m hoping some more experienced domainers will respond:
1). Is this the traffic and click performance you would expect for a portfolio of newly hand registered names? I know there are no hard rules, but after how many total visitors would you expect to see an actual click? 500 total unique visitors? 2000?
2). Is there is any way to tell the source of parked traffic? Can or should I make any assumptions about its source?
3). Some of my names with the most traffic are surprising to me and that is making me re-think the order in which I plan to develop my domains. Do you think the small amount of traffic to my parked domains can be a good gauge of potential consumer interest in a particular domain? Do you have any general traffic numbers (or ranges) you believe indicate that there might be significant interest in the name?
4). I know that parking works for domains with natural traffic and that I cannot try to drive more traffic to a parked page, but I wonder if anyone has tips to improve the click rate for the traffic that already exists.
5). Based on some of the posts I have seen here I think I will try the Bodis parking platform next, should I expect similar results there? Would you recommend a different parking platform for me?
I would be very grateful if some of you would share your perspective on some or all of these questions.
Thanks In Advance.
