.mobi Parked .mobis won't kill the extension

I'm working on a couple projects and searching for good .com names for them. Guess what I find? The names I would like to have are taken. When I visit them, they are just parked pages. (probably one of you guys :hehe: )

I really don't think all the parked .mobi names will hurt the extension. The reality is, MOST of the .com names are parked and undeveloped. Including most of the keywords!!!

All .mobi needs to be a success is a few thousand sites to be developed. When and if that happens, the so called "backers" of the extension will see the viability and launch their advertising campaigns.

(... and for the .mobi haters ... yes I'm getting tired of new threads stating they just registered thisnamesucksballs.mobi how much is it worth.)

About 30% of .coms are parked which leaves around 70% of the web with real content.

With Mobi, it's the other way around where I'm sure the majority of the pages are parked and the smaller number are the developed pages. But, with good search engines and directories, such as Boing.mobi and Dir.mobi it will be possible to sort through all of these parked pages. Also, once people begin to realize they aren't making any money with parking they will develop.

I am making money on parking. At this rate, with only 100,000 more clicks, I'll break even.

The 300k .mobis out there are held by a relatively small group of domainers as compared to other extensions. This is going to create some development bottlenecks as there is only so much time or money anyone can invest in development. In my case, I have about 250 .mobi names. If I have X amount allocated for development, a good chunk of that is going to go to names held in other extensions because they have a chance of immediate revenue.

I will develop some of my .mobi names, but probably only the best of the best & my focus will be on keyword names which I have developed in another extension. Until some more investors come into the .mobi space, bringing cash flow from sales & spreading out the development costs, the odds of most of the names being developed are pretty slim, IMO. There are still a lot of domainers who won't touch the ext with a ten foot pole. Time will tell who was right.

You think 70 % of the web have a real content ?
I don't think so.

A lot of sites are pages not very interesting, out of searched sujet, bad developed, bad parked....
The parking is principally made to gave search possibilities for the customers but is become only a $ source for owners who don't care the customer want to search. I don't think it will be work for ever.

I hope .mobi speculation (I have a lot of mobi and sure I hope price will increase :) ) and high prices for .mobi will on the contrary drive away a lot of people who are not professionals and just "tourists".
With less than 8$ you can have a com for 1 year. with 80 $ you can have it for 10 years or 10 .coms for 1 years. this multiplyed by thousand persons who don't care to develop .com site ...

I think mobi market is different, there is in a big part "professionals", developers and .com owner who wants to dev a mobile content.Mtld and partners have a marketing power very considerable.

Since the start of .mobi, price for good domains is not 8$. When you buy a domain for 1 500 $, with no traffic and if the traffic never come to repay the 1500 $ then you'll sell it to someone who wants to develop a content or you'll sell it for an inferior price to someone who wants to develop.

Mtld has understand that, it don't denigrate domainers, it will sold domains in auction with probably good prices, and choose best projects for strategics websites. Even if they will win a lot of money with auctions :)

If think someone who spend XX.XXX $ XXX.XXX $ for a .mobi will inevitably wants to develop his website on day or the other.

Thoughts ?

Personal message to jeremy: I'm still waiting my rocky's meat.

I apologize, I meant to say 30% of .COMS have parked content. Estimates from industry experts say it's 25% to 30%.

As long as people develop and companies take inituitive then all will be good.

I think all that matter is that the major popular websites develop their mobi names and people with millions to promote and advertise their mobi name also develop. If someone owns a name like bank.mobi and develops it into something small it doesnt matter. What matters is that bank of america, wachovia, commerce bank, etc all develop their mobi sites and make their online banking customers aware of it. We need companies like Yahoo, Google, Myspace, Facebook, Ebay, Amazon, YouTube, Flickr, and all the other top websites to start using their .mobi names, then the extension will take off. Its not going to make a difference if my names are parked or not and its not going to matter if some little domainer throws up some kind of site on one of their mobi names. Almost everytime i try to go to a .com site directly instead of going through a search engine just to see what is there its almost always a parked page.
