Parked.com stats are usually (barring unforeseen problems from the ad feed provider) finalized sometime between 2:00 and 3:00 PM EST the following day.
Alrighty then, back to reality for me (but it was nice while it lasted).

Google calculates the "size" of the ad areas (and whether its above the fold) as part of their quality score. A custom developed domain with smaller ad area will be ranked much here than a parked domain regardless what you do.

No, I was expecting that it would restore the only domain I've tried it for to page 1 of the Google results for the domain's phrase, but can't find one speck of improvement at all. Originally, before moving the domain to Parked that is, I had a simple web page up with some text and Yahoo ads scattered up and down, and a few CJ ads at the bottom (mostly graphical). After moving it to Parked, starting with the framing method, the domain had some days over $50 and seemed to be moving in the direction of eventually reaching $xxx per day. Then one day it disappeared from Google completely for about a week or so. Then it reappeared back on Page 1 for a while. Then it was soon blown off the Google pages again like dust in the wind and has been that way ever since. Needless to say, the income level went into the tank, too. All this has taken place since around May/June.

The thing that's so ironic about this, aside from the fact that the domain is the very .com of the search phrase itself that I'm alluding to, is that the content I added to the Parked.com page is much better than what I was originally publishing that had been on page 1 of Google. Now you can forget about any page - 2.3,4,5 - whatever. Also, although I have not exactly counted the number of words to compare the two, my best estimate is that the content I added to the Parked.com is also more extensive (could easily look at a back up of the old page to compare if needed). The bottom line is that the Parked.com page now should really be doing much better than the original page I was publishing before.

Additionally, I just opened an Adwords account to try the arbitrage route for this domain after reading on the boards that it was allowed with Parked.com if you used Google or Microsoft only, and it's been nearly a total waste really. The abrupt deactivation of the keywords and appearance of the $5.00 and $10.00 minimum bids has been so extreme and such a rollercoaster that, as if the first matter above didn't make it fairly obvious, it really seems like a big penalty has been clamped on this domain with no end in sight. I have to admit, I now feel very little or no incentive at all to continue spending any time on the content feature (sorry, Donny) because I feel like I would just be wasting my time. Otherwise of course, I really do like Parked and the new features that appeared in the interface are certainly great.

Anybody going to be at Search Engine Strategies in Chicago next week?

Donny

Geez.. I'm gonna be in Minneapolis from the 3rd-6th. I'd sure like to drop in to Chicago, but I need to make sure my company is okay with me changing my flight itinerary.

Great, now I'm customer support. :kickass: Last week I was the CIO (Chief Information Officer) for Parked.com, I managed all of our programmers, our data center, account managers, and the day to day operation of Parked.com. But now I've been promoted to CS. :))

I hadn't even heard about these awards, but I will say they definitely need some new software.

Back to my new job!

how long ya been there Donny?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chief_information_officer

"Due to the short tenure of many CIOs, CIO is sometimes facetiously ascribed the backronym of "career is over." One recent survey shows an average turnover rate of 5.7 years.[1]"

customer support isn't so bad :hehe:

SpareDomains I saw that a few weeks ago, and said I wanted to be called CTO from now on. :) I've actually been with the company for over 8 years now, I started right before the dreaded Y2K bug was supposed to destroy the world. I started out as a one of six people in the company, and within 6 months we had 40 employees and I was managing 20 of them. It's been going ever since. Not many people can say they love their job, but I can!

And CS isn't bad. It was more of a joke than anything.

And thanks for anybody who nominated me or Parked and anybody who votes. Since the awards will be given out at DomainFest, does anybody actually think Domain Sponsor will let anybody else win?

I had many other recommendations for titles that they always rejected, CPA (Chief Pain in the Ass), CRO, (Chief Revenue Officer/Show me the money/The Money Man), and my personal favorite, GHP (Grand High Poobah of the Loyal Order of Water Buffaloes Lodge No. 26 from Fred Flinstone fame).

I think titles and org charts are usually for the birds. When somebody asks me what do I do for Parked, I tell them I can do everything, but it doesn't mean that's what I do.

Donny...these days Yahoo has been downgrading quite a few big KW's from a 1 Click Lander to a 2 Click. I'm asuming there are lesser advertisers for these KW's now than before. However, can we expect a reversal (2CL --> 1 click) as the situation changes for these KWs? Some 1 click landers affected seem to be "payday loans" etc.

Hi Donny, Yes, the awards will be given out at Domainfest, however, they have NO CONTROL over who wins. Domainers are in control of that. You folks will be the ones who make the program the best that it can be by voting, getting the word out and sponsoring (a portion of all sponsorship fund will go to Domainers Choice Scholarship Fund. This explanation post on the site at one time may help you understand the awards:

I have been getting quite a lot of questions about DomainersChoiceAwards.com so I will answer them here.

One of my favorite events at the conferences, whether I attend or not, has always been the awards. Although most of the winners are great domain industry leaders, I wondered if the community themselves would have made the same choices. I envisioned a totally different event.

My own sig tagline in another forum actually sparked me to take action. It says "Stop living the life you've fallen into and start living the life you choose."

The first thing I needed was a name. I am fully aware that some want to move away from the term "domainer" but it's not going to go away. Even folks joining the movement to change the term use it because it is the natural term. Domainers Magazine, among others, have embraced the term and do a super job of presenting it in a positive light. So shall we.

The next thing I needed was a venue for presentations.

Since the other conferences already had their awards and their systems, I doubted they would hand that over to me.

Where better to present awards but in Hollywood!! I approached the folks at Oversee.net and presented my vision, my dream.

Then I waited for their response...with butterflies in my stomach! At this point this had become my passion. In my vision, and what I insisted on, was that awards go to the person/company chosen by the community...period. Inspite of all the "what ifs" that could happen.

They LOVED the idea!! They are not incorporating my idea into their plans, this is my baby, my dream and Oversee.net is providing just one of the many resources I need to make it happen.

What I needed next was help! I ran some ideas by a few folks that I am close to but what I needed was somebody who shared my passion and was willing to devote themselves to making it happen. This person had to share my morals, ethics etc. This had to be a person not effected by the politics of the industry and willing to put themselves "out there" regardless of the outcome. Sally Letzer came to mind and Sally Letzer stepped up to the plate! A very humble thank you, Sally :)

So in short, that is DomainersChoiceAwards.com!

Embrace it, love it, believe in it...these are your awards!

Hooray for Hollywood!

Did anyone else take a big hit when yesterday's stats finalized? I got slammed for
$14.00 ($58 down to $44). However, all the traffic was to the domains that normally
get it...
