Have you ever had someone bid on and pay for a domain, but then not give you the information to push the domain? I had someone do this a couple weeks ago and I'm still waiting. I've sent several pms and now the person isn't even accepting pms. Weird. At least I got paid I guess.

The domain is expiring on 4/14/08 and I'm not planning on it renewing it for him if he doesn't take it by then.

Did you sell it on eBay by any chance?

he/she must be thinking of his/her privacy that's why can't give you his/her information that's very difficult to get access to your domain.
I think he/she needs a middle man to do it for him/her.

Nope, never had this happen before. Very weird that someone would pay for something then not take it!

It's a strange world we live in ;)

What if the buyer is ill or something and doesn't have any relative/friends that know how to run his domain business? Wouldn't it be sad for him to return to find it expired!

True, but what other steps can you take if you only have 1 email from the buyer. It's been almost a year now, and i've already renewed the domain once.

I have experienced the same thing, w8amoment. Sold a domain a month after I reg'd it. They paid. I sent the account change initialization. They never completed the push or responded to any emails. After holding onto the domain for about 11 months, it was about to expire. I actually renewed the name - if they pop up and want the name, I will just ask for reimbursement for the renewal fee. If they don't show up again, I will eventually sell it to someone else. I thought about letting it drop; but I waited until it was set to expire to renew. I figured it was pretty fair doing it that way.

This a good piece of advice and it is something I would have done if I'm in that situation. As mentioned above this person maybe in unavoidable situation and couldn't take care of it at the moment.

I like your business ethics.

I sold the domain name ipodnano.in on eBay once. I made it clear numerous times that it wasn't an actual iPod, and that I would not refund anyone's money. Some idiot bought still thinking it was real, paid me a little over $100 and asked me to send it to him. I told him it wasn't real and that I couldn't give him a refund. I told him he had to sign up at a certain registrar and never heard back from him. I ended up just letting it drop as Spade said.

This is actually happening to me as we speak. I sold a domain to member here a couple weeks ago and they paid quickly but told me they would send the push info over in a while. So it never came. I sent emails to the person through the email they used for paypal but no response. Then i get on namepros today and see the persons account has been closed. I fell bad because i have the money AND the domain. If i cant find a solution for the problem soon i am just going to resell it.

If their account was closed, it could have been a mistake. I'd say leave it at least a week, because my account was closed at one point and I'd be a bit annoyed if i came back to see a domain i bought gone :)

Im not going to sell it like with in a week or two, but im not going to let it sit around for like a year or so. If i do sell it and the person did come back at one point i would give the money they paid for it back to them and explain why i sold it.

I sold a name for $3500 to a very reputable domainer (webmaster), we dealt via escrow.com, the buyer ask me to change the whois info to his and I did so, then escrow.com thinks the buyer has received the domain (but he hasn't reply to escrow.com as well). Escrow.com sent me the payment (almost 6 months ago), but the domain is still in my godaddy account, the buyer didn't accept the domain name account changing. I sent him a lot of emails to different addresses, but he never replies (almost 6 months now...)

This is also why I said escrow.com is not that secure, they simply check whois info to tell if the name is pushed...

I am still kept sending him emails, hope one day he can see it.

If you sold the domain and have received the funds, the domain doesn't belong to you anymore. You have no rights to sell the domain. Best thing to do is just let it drop (legalwise).

Things do happen. I had emergency open heart surgery and was out for 2 months or so. And my account here got closed once for language. My bad.

I sold the domain to a member here. I wouldn't think the reason would be fear of giving out their information because all I need is their email and their account number at this registrar.

Tivo - I have the exact same experience. I looked through your previous posts and found you sold a domain to the same person around the same time as I did so it must be him. His account must have just closed because I sent several pms that were never responded to not too long ago.

If the price was anything substantial I'd go ahead and renew and and wait longer but the price was for less than renewal so I don't think it's worth keeping if he doesn't get it by expiration. I don't know what else to do because I'd be losing money to renew it for him and he may never come back for it anyway.
