After writing about Pac's website going up for sale, I figured I'd start a topic about the fight itself - who are you backing?

3-5 years ago, Manny would have knocked FM out for sure.
Floyd knew this and kept ducking him.

Floyds "shoulder roll" style makes him hard to hit, so when you do, you have to make it count.
His last 2 losses, to Bradley (who he defeated last year to regain his title) and Marquez took a lot out of him.
I dont know if Manny has that punch in him at 36yo.
We'll have to see.

I hope he does. imo FM jr. is a POS. He has cherrypicked his last 20 or more fights, and since he has been about the only real money draw for years in a dying sport, the promoters have allowed this. Sad.
Even his father called him a punk.

Manny in a split decision, allowing for the rematch.

This one for sure. Though there is no specific clause in it, they will most certainly do a couple of fights imho, especially if Manny takes the first one. There is just too much money in those two to just leave it at a single match.

Interesting fact about Mayweather. His first ever recorder loss was from a Bulgarian boxer - Serafim Todorov - back in the Olympics in Atlanta, on the semifinal. Following this loss he was approached by some of the biggest promoters in boxing but he refused a contract, saying he wants to continue representing Bulgaria. Then he went to Mayweather and...well we all know how this story continues.

So yeah...couldn't help but being for Paquiao

Presumably the difference being that one is fighting a capable and willing participant of the same ability gender for public entertainment, whilst the other is a sadist who has to beat on somebody weaker to make themselves feel like a man.

This is the fight which everybody wants to see but it has the potential to be really boring.

12 rounds of Mayweather dodging punches and not throwing any, then winning on a close points decision.

Difficult to see any other outcome. I prefer boxing when there is a good chance of a KO and despite the hype and massive purse I can't see this going down as a true classic. It feels like more a formality to seal Mayweather's legacy and give Pacquaio a gold plated pension.

All the top heavy weights are in the NFL now, forgot the steak on your face crap when you can just block a dude for two hours once a week, 16 times a year.

Sorry I completely missed the fact that Mayweather was a wife beater. I thought your point was entirely different, thought the criticism was that a Nascar driver would be banned for that. Ignore me.

The fact that Mayweather is a jerk gives us all reason to want Pacquaio (generally considered a decent person) to KO him. Unfortunately I just can't see it happening, Mayweather is too good defensivly.

Heavyweight lost its glamour a loooong time ago, maybe after the Tyson vs Lewis fight it started declining. Nothing against the Klitschko brothers but during their reign boxing turned into a game of politics and who has the greediest manager agency. Vladimir's "tactic" to pick punching bags as his opponents resembles very much Mr Money's career. Constant shoving, clinching and a killer left punch - this is how it rolls when Vlad is on the ring....and yet he is on top. This is why I mostly stopped watching the sport a long time ago...

I agree it could be a boring fight, but like I said above, if Manny still has some power, his southpaw stance will give FM's D trouble.
And that would make for an exciting fight.

I think this will turn into a trilogy. Like Rado_Ch mentioned, there is just too much $ out there not to ride it.
