I've been involved in the DN secondary market for too long. I got started by accident when I started to accumulate a LOT of domain names for future projects as the price of dn's started to drop. Next thing I knew, I started to get offers. I didn't really take it seriously until I sold one for almost as much as my last job working for someone else paid
I sold that one and it's been a bit of a rollercoaster ride since then. 2001 was a very good year, but so far this year, I've had more activity than all past years combined.
I've averaged a pretty good $ amount on sales even though I haven't had any domains that most would look at and say, "Wow... that's a great domain!" Speaking of which, to give you an example, one domain that I've had a half a dozen private offers on ranging from $15k-25k, GD turned down!
I don't register typo domains (except on my own developed sites). I don't chase traffic domains. Although I do actively monetize a good deal of my portfolio (more than enough to pay the registration fees), I'm happy with getting domains that have potential to be a real business.
Some of the oldtimers (i.e. who were around in 2001
) who hung out at an old chat place might remember me as the "list" queen since I used to collect list domains.
I'm coming back out of the woodwork now because of focusing more efforts on the domain business and providing services to those in the secondary market business.
Have a great day!
