.tv Our new player - Suggestions welcome

I promised that we would try and get an example of a player that can literally 'grab' anything from anywhere and show it to the world before New Year.

and here we go - and your suggestions and views would be welcomed

If you go to

http://www.

and click on the "xxx" sectio

or click http://www.xxx

you should see a player hat pulls up film that relates to various wonderful locations around the world. At the moment the 'grab' is from YouTube, but it could equally be from anywhere else in the world (including pictures/stills from individuals websites).

This is VERY early day coding for us, but the potential is enormous as it means we can choose film from wherever it may be and use it as though it were a VT element of a news show. The 'xxx' logo is actually a simple still used as though it were a film.

If anyone would be so kind as to have a look at the player and give us their views I would be really grateful.

We will have a version that works specifically for individual templates within the next seven days.

congrats james, very happy for you and thanks in turning my night around, lol...hope to announce a quality site just like this in a few months...

you did great, will need to play around..your hard work, dedication to your sites, always educating us on .tv forum always shows!

site suggestions:

i love the layout and the logo...its a clean design, easy to navigate...when i click on 100 best locations in the usa, the 100 spots seemed to load up slowly for me(maybe its my wireless conection)...maybe break it down to 1-49 on first page, 49 to 100 on second page? but i do like how its all on one page though...catch 22..

running the adsense on site, i think you may need a privacy statement on site, i remember reading this somewhere on forum i believe but i could be wrong...??? maybe someone else can confirm this...

bottom of home page i would have a contact us link, privacy link, more about this site imo but that can be added very quicky and it is beta..

the images are clean, the layout is easy to navigate james and looks well...

Thanks Jeff

The site is not really ready (very Beta) but after the private forum thing I thought we could do we some proof that very many people are genuinely working towards making 2009 a GREAT year for development on top of domaining.

The next few days will see that site ready for launch (indeed if anyone has actually been to any of the places mentioned in the world top 100 we would love to see your pics).

Hard work always pays returns

Thanks guys.

We seriously have a lot more work to do yet - but most of the difficult stuff is over for this project. We'll add lots of extras on to the player over the next few days. Of course, we also improve the content.

The main thing is that we have proven that it is possible to have a running TV channel made up of film from virtually ANY source (using their servers) and break it up with our own presentations, stills, film, ads - anything we want.

Moving this away from the 'fun' project model and into normal sites/channels, it means we can pick a domain name and then literally make a televisual schedule about that topic.

If there is a cool thing about the player it is simply that it never stops playing. It can 'loop' over 1000 or 100 or 3 videos coming from various sources on the internet. This means that the viewer can watch all day if they wish to.

I REALLY didn't want to bring attention to the player in its present state - but thought it might be a good boost as we go into the new year.

This is Day One for us (hence the new avatar) in this new internet Tv world.

It is a great feature, and I'm happy to see that it is possible :)
But are you sure that it is allowed in Youtube's (or any other source) TOS?

Best wishes of health and success to all for 2009!

:

FIRST thing we checked!

http://code.google.com/apis/youtube/chromeless_player_reference.html

The first paragraph says...

"Overview
The YouTube Chromeless Player gives developers the flexibility to customize the YouTube player with their own controls, player 'chrome', and even behaviors like custom playlists and menus."

The trick, of course, is having the platform which allows us to select 'good' media from varying sources and bring it together in a single, uninterupted, stream of quality video.

We can also 'pull' from Daily Motion, Blip, etc etc

AND

from our own servers.

Jimbo,

I like the format and the fact that it is not too noisy in terms of space. You have a lot of room to work with and, for a beta, is a great start. Best of fortune to you on this. :snaphappy:

I know this is in beta and it is early days however I have one suggestion. How about having a search feature that you can enter a particular city/country etc and the player automatically selects video relating to your request. You could still have it picking randomly for those who did not want to use the search feature.
Don't know if this is possible or what the masses would want but I feel it would be a nice addition.

Other than that I think you have done a great job.

Brilliant IMO, Great work Jimbo. Are you going to license the player to people who would like to use for their own projects ?

There is no "You Don't Have Flash" warning by the look of it?

Nice though :)

The intention at the moment is to prove the player with regular domain names that I personally own via our template system and then follow that by linking up with domain owners who really don't have the time or inclination to spend money developing names they personally own.

I imagine that now we've proven the technology CAN exist others will try desperately to copy it - or do as we are doing right now - making it better.

Within a few months I would suggest that hundreds of .TV 'sites' will have very quickly become 'channels' worth watching.

After all the work we've put in I don't really see the need to offer out a license. However I do think we will be able to let those who have good domains use the system in partnership.

For example, if a person has the name 'Cookin.tv' and wants to have a site/channel that shows only recipes being made. We will build everything to an agreed amount (site, player, forum, etc) and then the owner can either have total admin and financial control or let us control the running of the site (or a mixture of the two). The ad/sponsorship revenue would then be shared.

This would certainly be better than parking pages up (which is what happens with the bulk of .tv names) in terms of revenue and purpose - AND - it improves the brand of .TV because more and more .TV names will actually show something worthwhile.

As I mentioned many times before, we are working towards a much larger single site. Although we built the player for a specific purpose I didn't think too hard about it having applications beyond our own use. BUT, perhaps, it would be madness not to let others have access to it.

I think people know me well enough - if anyone thinks they could use it for a project then I'm always open to ideas.

Oh, and finally, it might be nice if some here actually uploaded some pics on the site. It would be nice to see your, no doubt, handsome and pretty faces!
