I would be in favor of any writer. I'm one myself, and trust me, writers don't get even 1% of the respect and recognition they deserve. Actors and directors are worth nothing if the script/dialog for a movie or sitcom isn't good.
Articles make the publisher money day after day, year after year. The writer only gets paid once. I'm all for writers on this. The problem lies in the cut-throating going on in the industry and the poor grammar used by the wealth of "English is my 2nd language" writers out there. Its hard for proficient and highly adept writers to compete.
This gives me a great idea for a reality show. We'll get a bunch of professional writers and make them live in the same house as a bunch of producers. Obviously the show would be called "Striking Distance" and we would make them do some crazy challenges that no one really cares about. The outcome would be completely arbitrary and meaningless, just like any true reality show.
