Could a certain keyword be valuable in these extensions sure but I have a hard time seeing value in most non .com. .net , .io., .co, .AI extensions.

Pretty much. The worse the extension, the higher quality the term needs to be.

Also, all terms don't work in all extensions. For example in .IO it is all about branding words, not keywords like CarpetCleaning.io.

    Agree.

But it never ceases to amaze me marketing.

Part of the “future generation” never come. My Personal fave ngtld is xyz best marketers imo.

i agree with OP, 100%, but i stricter comnetorg
Too much ngtlds, dilutes the product.
I lost all hope at “.sucks”

PS: .web wont be a game changer!

It's not the extensions that are garbage, it's the domain pairing choices. But really, there's more garbage and more failed investments in .com then in any other extension. Probably because so many newbies were told to just "stick" with .com.

Brad was spot on the lesser-known the extension, the higher the term should be. I would stay away from describing these kinds of extension as "worse" though, if basing purely on historical sales data.

It's never to late to try a different lane, but the longer people wait the tougher it will get to do so. You're going to find yourself stuck in the same .com moat as now. I am always for diversification when given early opportunities with strong domain names.

Afternoon everyone. While I do invest heavily in .com and .org, I also invest in obscure cctlds that many would deem crap. I would buy a strong one word singular keyword on a chosen cctld of my liking. My mindset is to hold for a minimum of five years, and maybe this cctld can take off. It's not easy to do. Sometimes I like the uniqueness of that strong keyword being on a cctld.

I think about three years ago I bought the keyword Casino for reg fee on an obscure cctld. Fast forward to 2021 and the keyword Casino on any cctld is not available at all or not available for reg fee.

You're going to have to have patience and use intuition (sometimes ignoring conventional domain name wisdom). You have to come with a fresh pair of eyes and and a new mindset. Notion.so and Supply.co are showing the world that legit businesses can be created on obscure cctlds (yes, I know, .co is well known now, but a couple years ago it was not). Many of us in this forum would say .so is crap (including me), Notion.so made me look stupid and reminded me that if you have great content, a great service that's built on top of an obscure cctld, you can still be very successful.

So, yes, I am continuing to buy strong singular one word keywords on cctlds (especially cctlds with low renewal fees, there's that carrying cost) that are frowned upon, and I am willing to hold for a couple of years, again it's not easy. There's really no right or wrong answer, do what works for you, however you may need a bit of patience when investing in many of these cctlds.

    Thank you.

The extension doesn't matter. What the site does is the only thing that matters.

Sure, with enough money you can build a business on anything

That is irrelevant when it comes to selling domains.

    Hi

i think that, is the root of all.... when it comes to the appeal of domain names.

when you search for the best pairings in a new extension though,
many times you'll find that the "right of the dot" extensions with the least amount of "good pairing possibilities...
will have the majority of those choice keywords/terms, set as "registry reserved or registry premium".

the difference, i guess, from an investors' perspective,
would be to note the initial registration cost and the renewal price, along with how many years in advance it can be locked in.

    let's say i wanted to buy "alaska.fun"
    registry premium cost is $1,500
    renewal cost is $3,000

    imo...

in my opinion, the other extensions are good for personal projects only, but if you want a business you need to stick with a .com

I have said time and time again, that the only thing one gains from the .com is a product extension that has become the brain child of the domain world and the internet, heavily marketed over 25 years to the average consumer ^ however if you’re a smart business owner you should invest in both, you shouldn’t put all your eggs in one basket,

    I co own the names,

    easy.credit

    e.credit

    mortgage.loans

Do you know how much easycredit.com is right now ? $26,000,000 … I am not asking even a million on easy.credit and for someone to take the name and build something out in one of the worlds trillion dollar industries is genius ^ in fact the name could even be used in DeFi or crypto

Look at what Shopify did with https://shop.app or what Apple did with https://apple.watch ;) even though Apple reroutes the name back to their main brand .com - they still utilize the fact that the extension is valuable to their “new age marketing”

And I have to tell you with what Verisign has been doing behind the curtains with secretly bidding on .web for $165M and purchasing out .tv for $100M in 2000, I would do my own due diligence and invest in both markets; despite everyone else telling you to stick to .com

Just invest in good domains ! Strong keywords in valuable industries, does not matter the extension
